Something about OHIO

I also dabble in vintage street bikes and old MX bikes

old RD Yammies....Old British Machines like Triumph and BSA and 750-4 Hondas and Suzook GT series 2 stroke triples

I usually attend Mid-Ohio Vintage days up until last summer

there`s lot`s of road course vintage racing action....vintage MX races...vintage Trials....sidehacks...and over in Ashland there`s the flattrack same weekend and -I believe some vintage hare scrambles

it`s fun to see Bultacos, Can Ams, Rotax (I saw a Rotax powered hillclimber with three 250 Rotax`s with crankshaft ends welded together....WILD!) old Jap machines, KTM,CZ,Gas-Gas,Huskies, the list of vintage machines goes on and on

there are NO make or models not represented somewhere on the grounds

and the SWAP MEET area....is the biggest I have ever seen on the planet...street stuff, MX stuff, even some trike stuff (with old US 70s abound year before last) with over 800 swap spaces filled with every imaginable part

after that we hit the AMA museum in Columbus and visited the MX exhibit....BADASS!.....Malcom Smith was well repped as was Steve McQueen....all the way up to current day MX stars with a display for freestyle MX jump videos

I noticed while riding from Kentucky through OH, that off-roading is insanely popular in OH.....evrywhere you look along the highways and by-ways, there are trails and tracks visible...we stayed with a friend who collects metric machines of the two-wheeled variety and he took us across the road to his neighbor`s house...who had hidden behind his house back in the woods, the most well-groomed Pro-class MX track I had ever seen for a weekend warrior (who happens to be in his mid 50s and still clears his 70 ft. "gulley of death" jump along with a 20 foot high steel trussed and wood planked trick ramp)...this track took over 6 minutes to lap so it wasn`t any tiny little track

anyway, I noticed that overall, wherever you looked in OH, there were examples of off-roading on two, three, or four wheels

just found that little fact fascinating

and if you`ve never been to Mid Ohio Vintage days....you ain`t a real fan and you are missing the BEST event I have ever seen with vintage dirt and street events and riders straight outta the WAYBACK machine...alot of the old pros still run these events

so what`s up with OH? is there a dirt plague running amock there?


I would like to meet some members from here when we hit it next year...as I`ll be pit-working for a friend who races 500 and 650 Production and Sportsman class on the road track

I grew up in Ohio. I think off roading is so popular there because there's nothing else to do.
