Update on the 20 day 200X build. Compression and carbs.......

I really haven't done much with my 20 day 86 200X build with the 87 updates since Trikefest. How can you jet in MUD with not so much as a hose to wash the trike off with? and you'd much rather spend your time there meeting people you may never see again.... Very well worth the 19 hour drive I must say

So, at the advice of Garage Boy, I yanked out the extra cylinder base gasket when I got home, and ran race gas. I was hoping to keep the 12:1 compression down with a double gasket enough to run 93 octane but that didn't do it. As soon as Mark helped me with some race gas there was a great improvement but still not the power I felt it should have.

The new EBAY Mikuni 30MM carb has been near IMPOSSIBLE to get a pilot jet for. Sudco and others cannot guarantee me that there jet is correct, not to mention the minimum amount of jets which is 4 of the same size... I've spoke to them a few times and even if I gave them thousandths of an inch dimensions, there were no guarantees...............

I did get ahold of the person that sold me the ported head and he claimed Micky Dunlap owned this head and ran a 168 main in a 200x.......

Apparently, although the carb is brand new with numbers on it and Stamped - Mikuni, I'm told that it's a knockoff carb and they cannot guarantee me that the jets they are willing to sell me will fit and again, I have to by 4 of the exact size for 14.99 and that can get stupid expensive fast... They claim that the numbers on the carb cannot insure me the correct parts

So, last week Garage Boy (Mark) - who BTW is just a hell of a great guy! hooked me up with a 28MM Mikuni flatslide "old school style" from White Bros. This carb has NASTY written all over it! The front got machined off and a flanged piece pressed in that allows you to run the stock boot intake, rear boot and air box. The initial run was phenomenal and it felt as fast or better than a 350X Not the torque, but very quick nonetheless.

But, it has been sitting a long time and I need to grab a rebuild kit and some jets I can play with. I also have a complete NEW Supertrapp system on it's way - thanks to Honda250SX (Jeff the TriZ man..) to enhance everything. Then I should be able to really test out all the mods I put into this trike.

Anyhow, I had about 178PSI compression and then I yanked out the extra base gasket and this is what I have now -



Pretty TIGHT huh?

I'm sure I still have a stroker crank and cylinder plate in the future for this puppy If you haven't ridden an 86/87 200X - try one.... They really are in a world of there own

My friend has an 86.It's a great trike.I love the frame on those.I wish they continued the squared frame to the water pumpers.

one thing, it seems like you could benefit from making your own intake...matched to the size of the 28mm.

Seems like with that 12:1 you would have a whole lot more compression than that though... I was thinking more along the lines of 205+.

That gauge I had must have been freaking WAY off.

Once again, sweet sweet bike.

Is the intake on the 86/87 the same as the first gen?
