need help with rough idleing 185s

my buddies 185s was running rough barely idleing and flooding the engine. took the carb off and cleaned it all up and all the jets. looked over the carb boots and air box and everything is fine. now it idles really high and just seems like it won't stop revving up. it only starts to idle better when you put the choke on, but you can't ride it with the choke on because it just starts to spit an sputter and run like crap. what could cause this? could the float bowls be off or something else?

Did you adjust the idle screw to make it idle lower? That helped my 185s that I just got running the other night. It did the same revving to the moon thing as yours before I adjusted it. The screw is on the right side of the carb.
