ok i have a question. i am changing my carb. i would like to know if the 38mm pj or 38 pwk keihn carb is to big for a basically stock 250r. i will be getting an exhaust, but not at this time. also the piston is 3 sizes over. also i am running a k&n filter and will most likely get a dg pipe (since they are easier to find)
please let me know. thanks

A 38 is too big for a stock engine even with a pipe and reeds. I wouldn't go any bigger than a 36 and a 34 would probably be ideal. The bigger the carb the worse the low end performance unless you have the cc's to handle it.

ok, i actually have a 85 250r 34mm carb (round slide). is this a good upgrade or should i look for a pj (flat slide) carb.
i would like to get the best i can with what i can afford. will the 85 carb "wake " up the basically stock 84 good or not?

using the liquid cooled 250r carb is one way that has been said to get more performance out of the air fooler. Jet it, slap it on, and see how it does.

do you guys know of any site that has the id numbers of the carbs and tells what they are.like pe or pj carbs.
i have run into so many people that do not know how to measure there carb and i don't want to get a carb that is to big for my engine.
i have decided to use the pe carb from the 85 that i have and keep looking for a pj or pwk striker carb.

It's not hard to figure out what carb is what. A PE series is a roundslide carb. and a PJ is a flatslide.

3razors. i know how to look at a carb and tell if it is a pe or pj. what i meant was. is that pe a 30 34 36? pj 34 36 38? that is what i meant. i only ask this becuase many don't know. and i don't want to waste my money on a carb that is too big for my trike.

from what i have seen the serial # on the side of carb usually has a 2 digit # followed by some letters. this is the size in mm of the carb. like mine is PE 30xxxx
i'm glad i read this though as i am looking for something a bit larger for my 84 R and wasn't sure if the 85-86 carbs would work. how bout a trx 250r carb? i think stock carb on them was a 34mm Keihin.

I put the '85 R carb on my fooler, haven't had a lot of seat time on since the upgrade, but so far I like it. Dropped into place with all the stock parts.

to cheap, i read your write up and that is whay i was thinking of going witht eh 85 carb. thanks for the information.
the trx carb from what i can tell is a 34mm carb, but just be sure that it is stock. alot of people put bigger carbs on them. that is why i asked about the numbers for id'ing the size of the them
