    backfires sometimes while slowing down

    a 200es
runs great, starts first haul most of the time, new battery, all electrical right.
But sometimes when i have the bike open trottle in 5 gear and i let of the trottle a lil she makes a few pops and back fires.

Ideas? plug is burning a nice tan colour.

It's not a big deal to me, but just like to know if anyone had this lil problem and a solution to it.

    thaks in advance

sounds like a possible air leak somewhere. Check around your intake for cracks as well as a worn oring between the carb and intake.

probably just extra gas that is igniting in the exhuast, i'm guessing you have some sort of aftermarket exhuast? i have a cobra on my 250sx and it pops and bangs sometimes after you ring it out and let off, it's pretty common and will do your engine no harm. also my ramcharger with flowmaster's does the same thing.

if it's a stoocker exhaust, you could be running a bit rich. could try jetting down 1 size.

Agreed on the slightly rich diagnoses. Let it ride- Rich is WAY better than lean. I have my Suzuki Motorcyle running that way, as well as my 350 X. Many miles logged with very happy cylinders!!!!!!!!!! (*********and valves********)

everything on the bike is stock except a lil switch i made so i can by-pass the (no start in gear thing) When shes in the mud and gear shifter is under mud also, i flip the switch, the nutral light comes on, hits the e-start and away she goes again, then flip the switch back, neet lil rig,

also on start up it seems like the bike now has a lil tendcy to jeark, like starve for gas.
i'll check the floats when i gets home.

    thank for the replys.

how long has it been since the carb has been cleaned and the valve adjusted?

last time was when i did a complete top end about a month or so ago.
I am the type of guy also who knows a fair bit abot engines, but not a pro. no problem for me to take a big red and pull the engine out do a compete top end and new clutch plates and put it all back together in a few hour without looking at the manual. now i do have a service manual just in case.
When it comes to carbs i still gotta learn on that.

is the poilet screw for air or fuel?
more turns out for more air and
more turns in for less air? or the other way around

    200es.

i hears ya, i think the bike is a lil on the lean side, the plug is not as dark as i like it to me, i rather see a dark cholate colour tan a lighty tan.

sometime when i plans a long trip i fills my tank up and trops a lil bit, prob 50ml of 2 stroke oil to the tank. it don't smoke and helps the engine out a lil, anymore than 50ml would be overbord.

also do anyone ever use a cylinder cleaner to help remove build up of the vlaves and stuff.

i used the stuff once and i didn't notice any diffs, but i finds the stuff great for cleaning fouled spark plugs and a wire brush. makes them good as new.

screw in is elaner screw out is richer.
i would turn it in about 1/8-1/4 turn and work on the idle with it. it's really just an idel screw adjustment. you probebly just need to turn it or out. Stock setting should be 2 full and 1/8 out. mid and wot is pretty much your jet size.
