That's very true, If that cylinder isn't ported for that pipe, it's kind of a waste. That is a friggin clean R, very nice, I love 86s![/QUOTE]

Previous owner swears it was in good running condition and all he did was store it, so carb must be gunked up. However the throttle cable operates smoothly, so it must not be too bad.

Oh one more thing, if that's true about the piston, so when my top end goes, sure it will sooner or later, will this pipe work with a 310 big bore kit?
Are there many mods needed to do a big bore kit? I would assume if you had to do it, why not go big?

You could go with a 270 kit and get it ported by ESR, then that pipe would be working for you.

It just depends on how big you want to go, generally the bigger the more $$$, all the way up to a sabertooth 500cc cylinder.

I would personally get acustomed to the 250cc cylinder power you have now before wanting more. And bigger isn't always better...I've seen alot of fine tuned stock cylinder 250R's walk all over 310 ect kits. It's all in the setup and tuning.

Pulled the carb today, looked totally clean, for sitting for ten yrs. Put it back on and threw in some fresh fuel. 91/golden spectro at 32:1.

MY GOD, THIS BIKE IS A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could not believe the power! It wanted to come from underneath me in fourth gear. I have rode 250r's before, but not like this. This thing rocks!

Can't wait to get it in the dunes. I can see now what you guys where trying to say about getting use to it first.

But no way was I prepared for it to start on the first kick, and just scream!

It smoked a bit at first, but that was it, more like all the goo from the previous owner running 20:1.

only problems where the brakes where completely gone, suppose the seals have gone bad in the cylinders, and the kill switch did not work. Have to dump the clutch to kill it. Found it funny the idle was set so low, it would just kill the engine.

Sorry, just way excited, your thoughts?

From the pics and description sounds like you have a good one. Most of the 250R's out there have been hacked on pretty good, so now you know what one is supposed to run like. Don't worry about a lil smoke on startup..it's a good thing.
