    tore apart my R

i was jumping it and lost third gear and the top end has been noisy .
It was pretty easy getting the engine out of the frame but the top end was
pretty stubborn. Then i started to get a lil nervous..... Id never done this before
i split the case with a small chisel and the "worm gear" and the smaller of the two gearsets came out with a shift fork attached. Afterplaying with them figuring out how they went together i inspected all of my gears. They were fine
so i am asuming i have a bent shift fork. As soon as i can spare some cash i need to buy a manual and a gasket set. Also i plan on doing the crank bearing if i can find one at a reasonable price money is tight and it sucks. A new piston is like $130 not to mention to have the cylinder bored.

Good luck on the rebuild man, mine is apart too. Any pics of your R? Hows the DG head perform? I always thought those were cool.

How does the gear on the shift shaft look? Are there any cracks in the gear?

Never ever use a chisel, screwdrivers, ect to split the cases. You will damage the mating surfaces and have oil leaks.

i know it was a little risky but i used a thin chisel and tapped around the block many times as not to damage th mating sufaces. My R ran well it easily took 300ex out . Ive never had one with a stock head so i dont know how to compare. Ive rode long rides in the mountais without any overheating in early summer.40+miles rough terrain and mountains.

also...use the dirtcrasher method and stonegrind those edges to remove burrs. You won't have oil leaks then from the chisel.

what is the correct way to "split" a case? and there are no cracks in any of the gears
there are no burrs but one little dig in the case before i seal them back together i will epoxy the
mating sufaces with a thin coat and then wet block them perfectly smooth and true

Your supposed to use a case splitter to hold pressure and a urethane to lightly tap the case here and there and it just comes right apart.

A steering wheel puller might do the trick.

DO NOT send any thing to whats his face (dirt-face/crasher) here on the board. What a scum bag. He screwed (stole) money from me and screwed me on my ME360 and Hondaline 300R engine rebuilds.
