    Question 84 200x steering neck bearing size?

    Before I took apart the front of my 84x there was a little play in the neck. According to manual there should be 21 ,1/4 inch balls. The balls caliper to 1/4 inch but only 18 were there w/a little space and could not fit 19 in. I think maybe my book has the wrong size can anyone confirm the size of these bearings? Thanks

    I'll tell ya, I've run into the same chit.... It said I could fit more but I could only get 18 balls in there and I figured it was a misprint. They would have to be smaller diameter to fit more in there.

    I'm sure you just needed to clean it up and grease it/readjust it.

    It's not you

    All balls offers a tapered steering stem bearing kit. Huge improvement over stock. I remember when I tore into my 200x when I took the triples off all those bearings went flying all over the floor. most of them never to be seen again. lol

    I think I recall the guy at the shop complaining about those single ball bearings too. I think he said they were 7mm.

    Thanks guys that makes me feel better. They definately need a cleaning and new grease so I'll do that and tighten it back up and see if that helps. I'll also call some local bearing shops and see if theres much difference between 1/4in and 7mm bearings.

    everything else on these trikes are metric...I have no idea why they would list bearing size in standard?

    1/4 = .250
    7MM = .275 or a .025 increase in diameter
    6MM = .236 or a decrease .014 in diameter

    I think they may be 6MM balls.....

    Anyhow, the All Balls kit is very nice - contact "DADS" on the boards, and it may be perfect for your model but I have found a couple of those kits that the washer they provide you with had to be used but it was too thick. The 86 200X headset needs a washer about half the thickness of what they give you and you can't use the kit without the washer....
