Is $250 A good price for an sx?

I have a 1985 honda 250 sx that is kinda a beast. 8) The exaust consists of an unknown muffler welded on to the header. the foot peg is welded to the frame cause the bolts snapped and i couldnt get them out. the fenders on it are totally the wrong ones but suit the purpose. also the seat cover is a crappy purple and a very bad job indeed for installing it. A local offered me $250 for and i am considering to sell it. i paid $100 for it and it runs pretty good. Also the swing arm bearings are shot  so its a toss up for me, its a good beater and a good winter bike but $150 profit does sound pretty good... :?: so what do you think? :?

i'd keep it and use it as a beater. If it runs good and some days you just feel like beating something and not your nicer wheeler then it is a good alternative.

Whether to keep it or sell it is totally up to you.
But if your going to sell it,
If it runs good and fenders are in good condition I would ask $400 or a little more ( even with the swing arm bearings bad ). Think of it this way: $150 profit is good. But if you ask $400 and he jumps on it at that then $300 is better.

Just for the record: I have bought quite a few 250sx's most for more than $250. some ran some didn't, Some in real good shape and some wasn't.

SX's are difficult to restore. Once the swingarm goes bad - especially the journals mounted to the swingarm on the diff pivot side - and the rear diff starts to go it's a huge investment to get it good again. I recently got an 85 for 500$ nice plastic etc but noisy motor - drove alright. Got it home - read diff completely gone even though no noise?? and the forks were just slightly bent and the tranny is tired and rounded. It's still got great parts which I'll strip and keep and then sell a rolling chassis for 350$. So it's not a loss but WAY too expensive to fix.

thanks guys... i think i will keep it, but i want to fix the swingarm bearings because the shaft is just wobbling all over the place :? and i know that isnt to good for it. :x i think i might get the necesseties for it to keep it somewhat alive. when it dies it dies.

Skippy, thats pretty cool.... my area stinks for riding, some of the cops dont mind us riding on the roads though (go figure).

VERY good choice for keeping it. You'll be surprised with it. The way it is now it will run for another 5 years... But I don't recommend it

    Good luck on the resto.
