check out those crazy cars! I have a question for ya, In MAD MAX, what kind of car was "the night rider" driving in the beginning when he crashed into the trailer? What kind of car was the "interceptor" in that scene? and the last pursuit special with the blower, the one in "the road warrior" also. It looks like a 1970 Torino king cobra. ???

Is that what I see in the first picture, a tri-moto. It looks like one to me.
Mad Max movies always had ugly paint jobs but cool cars.

I believe the Mad Max car was an Australian Ford Falcon.

Most of the cars in that movie were Ford's and Falcons to be exact. They had a ton of others, anyone notice the Pontiac el-camino thing in the 2nd movie? Australia knows how to build a car. I love the fact that they still have leaded gas there and no emissions laws. Most of the vehicle's sold there are rear drive v-8 powered cars, even the faimly cars... It's great!

yeh aussie does build good cars (we'll show u americans up lol) to trailprotrailpro question about mad max sorry mate ive never seen it the cars in the 1st photo the brown 1 is a holden hq 1 toner ute an the yello 1 is a ford falcon ute yeh most of the australian built cars are either 6 cylinder rear wheel drive or v8's but we still have a lot of imported cars such as tghe little 4 cylinder front wheel drive cars ford australia makes the ford falcon xr6 (straight 6. rear wheel drive)an the xr8 v8 than it goes into all the fairlanes an things then we have holden they make the commodore just models simmilar to fords like 6 cylinders and v8s and that .theres alot of rivalry against ford an holden over here in aus FORD VS HOLDEN theres a big serious on it. it goes around all the tracks in aus its called the v8 supercars its just ford vs holden holden have there ss commodore vs the ford falcon xr8 its good to watch.we recently had a ford fairlane that ran on gas it done 890 000 klms not sure wat that is in miles but its a long way an it still goes. so yeh AUSSIE DOES BUILD GOOD CARS

Also, there's a 1st generation "mono-shock" yamaha. you can see the rearend just off the guy's shoulder in the top pic. It appears to have a white rear fender and white number plate. That's cool because back then those old yamahas here in the US were yellow & black. but over-seas they were red & white.

Those 250r's looke they've got lawn mower tires on them, the first true flat-track tire!

    Sprinters were cool...

As far as mad max goes...lemme see if i can remember whats what...

Nightrider drove a 2 door holden monaro. something cool to know is when the car is screaming across the road (and I think gets slammed by a big road train) is that the engine was removed from the car. It had a solid fuel rocket powering it and there was no driver. The car is really going that fast, its not sped up film.

The interceptor max drove (black on black)was a ford falcon XB GT coupe with a 351. the blower was non functional and was only for aesthetics.

If I'm not mistaken the yellow interceptor max had before the black on black was also a falcon, but an xb sedan (they were 4 doors). This car also ran the 351 if I'm not mistaken...

The last pursuit special in the road warrior was the same car (black on black) as what was seen in the previous film. Only real differences is it was made to look more beat up, and had the dual 55 gallon drums in the rear. When you see the car roll, its actually another car made to look like the black on black...so the original is still out there.

What can I say? mad max is one of the best series of movies there was (thunderdome wasnt as good but what the hell).

I understand Ford sold the same cars in Australia under different names, but As far as I could tell, the black interceptor was the basic body of a 70 torino. The other interceptors were definatley euro fords, but what? they called them Falcons? I bet that 4 door with the 351 was a ballsey ride. looked about the size of a Maverick.

The falcon was actually its own model, and it had its american counterparts (in the early years of the lineup, I have never seen an american falcon newer than a 68). The black on black is close to both the boss mustang and torino (in size, the shape takes a little from both with the fastback and such). The torino is a larger car...and the mustang is smaller. The falcon is kinda an in between size wise, but looks similar to both. There are similarities here, mostly in the aesthetics department though. If you were to build a replica out of either a boss or a torino you could do it, but the cars are different enough to make it a pretty good challenge to get it real close.
