Hey all, been lurking and draining the search feature for awhile now. I'm interested in knowing which trike lends itself to taller riders better.....the 85+ ATC250R, the 86+ Tecate KXT or the 85+ Tri-Z. I know bars are easily switchable, but I would be inclined to not mess with the seat. The tri-z "looks" like the seat has a lower position, but from what I can tell it appears to be more of an illusion.
Just looking for some personal feedback from you folks. Thanks!

In my opinion the tri-z is best suited for taller riders stock.. I modified my 250R with a 2 inch longer subframe (and seat)
the foot pegs are set 2 inches lower and back 2 inches, now I feel super comfy on it and not as cramped as I did before

I've currently got a 2001 RM250, 1989 KX125 and a 2007 Supermoto DRZ. I was really looking for a 85-86 ATC250R, but the Tri-Z's are really appealing to me. I think I'm actually leaning toward the Tri-Z just because they seem a little more rare.
I want the nicest trike I can find and still not feel too horrible if I roll the thing over in the trails.

At 6'2", my vote for a taller rider's comfort is definitely the Tri-Z.
As much as I love the R and Tecate, after spending countless loonng days aboard each over the last 23 or so years, I would take another '86 Z for a general/all-around rider in a heart beat.

I guess this thread is kind of derailing....but....
....can anyone tell me if there are huge differences from the 85-86 Tri-z's? I think the 86 had a 6 speed where the 85 and 85.5 didn't, but I can't tell much else. Someone locally claimed that their cousin may sell his tri-z, but if I knew some of the differences it may help to identifiy what exactly he has (without just taking his word for it).

The '86 is a six-speed, has a bit beefier fork diameter, very slightly differerent rake(hard to notice), slightly tweaked porting(according to the mags of the day), and more suspension travel.
I bought a brand new leftover '86 straight out of the crate in 1987 for somewhere around $1400! Rode it until I sold in 1993.
There were 2 '85's in the crate right beside mine in the shop for $150 less...but I had to have the '86.
Wish I had at least taken a camera to get pics of them opening the crate mine was in and putting it together while I watched.
