Hard to start when engine is hot

Hi, I just bought an '85 110 ATC, and it starts first pull when the engine is cold, but once my kids have been riding around on it for a while, I sometimes have to pull that thing 10 times before it starts ... and when it does catch, I've got to play with the thottle to get it to rev up.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

    Ross.

Also ... I noticed that the spark plug got pretty black within a day after putting a new one in. Maybe that would give someone a better clue ...

    Thanks.

sounds like it is running a little bit rich. the air filter may be clogged or it could be flooding out. that would be why it is so easy to start cold it already has "extra" fuel

Thanks for the info. If it's running rich, does that mean I should turn that pilot air screw counter-clockwise (half a turn or so) ? I had initially turned that screw out 1.5 turns from seated position.

    Thanks.

no that will not help it much. you will either need to replace or clean the air filter. or rebuild the carb. maybe just a good cleaning will do check the float height it may need a little bit of adjusting. also may want to check the needle and seat. and make sure the choke is in the full off position when it says it is. any one of thease things can lead to an engine running rich

make sure the gas cap vent is clear, if it has one
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.
