I need help desperately.....!!! cam shaft installation..

Ok, I have the jug and cylinder head on, now I'm trying to put in the cam shaft and do the timing...

I dont know what needs to be lined up.. I have a manual , but it says line up the t mark and then the o mark, but I have no idea where the 't' mark is.

and even if i find that, how do i know which way the cam is supposed to be installed?

fox i had a 200S a little while back, and while i had it i had put a new timing chain on and when i went to line up the timing, i believe there is an "O" on the timing sprocket connected to the cam, its hard to see, but its there on that sprocket. now i think that O has to be lined up with the notch on the case that goes on top of the cylinder head, say when you put that case top on, it forms a circle around the cam, then you bolt on the CDI case... there should be a V notch at the top of that circle. after you line the O on the timing sprocket up with that V notch in the top case, there will be a T on the flywheel(you can see this by taking the bolt out of the top of the base by the pull cord). this has to be lined up in that hole while the O and V notch are lined up, so its all on the same page. i think thats how it works!

I just did my timing on my 200 and i found the easiest way was to do what is mentioned above leave the timing chain semi loose so you can undo the cam sprocket bolts and rotate the cam sprocket to line up once the bottom flywheel t mark is aligned you may need a flash light to see the mark and if the cove leaks you may need to take it off and lightly sand the wheel to find the t stamp.

When ALL else fails, go back to basics and it's easy.

Piston at TDC on the firing stroke, the cam lobes should be relaxed or away from the rocker arms. You'll always find a line, a hole or a notch that puts that cam either directly up or down. I've timed engines with no marks and used a plastic straw to get the piston at TDC.

If your careful, you won't be even 1 tooth off......

Being 180 degrees out won't bend the valves, but it won't run because it's firing at the wrong TDC.

Always run it through by hand slowly without a spark plug in there to be sure your not interfering anywhere.....

when you say the bolt on the base by the pull cord, do you mean the flat countersunk one that looks like it needs an nickel to be used to take it out?

or the bolt that adjust the cam chain?

t mark is for the top dead center right? cant you just do that with a screw driver through the spark plug hole?

It Lives!!!!

I just did tdc with a screw driver, put the cam in with the lobes down, put the gear on and lined up the '0' with the knotch on the valve cover and put the engine back on and fired her up!! now time for a new carb

if you find it's lacking a lto fo pwoer, then you could be a tooth off.
you may want to unscrew the screw on the pull string side of the case. it yes looks liek you need a coin to undo it. once you remove it, you will then see the "t" and ont he side of the hole in the case you will see a line sticking out. it will be the place where you align the line where the t sits at.

then just aling the O on the cam to the nothc in the head and your set in dead time.
