    87 250R tuning

Hey guys, my buddy got a great deal on a fairly original 87 R, and I'm trying to help him out a little. X.System was awesome pointing me in the right direction, and I was lucky enough to have a case of jets to experiment with.

The bike runs best with a #142, with the clip 1 noth lean from center. Plug chop comes up tan and dry. While the bike runs well, it hesitates to wind out all the way in 1st gear, and sometimes in 2nd. Third gear and after, its a rocket, and will take WOT through 6th.

I'm hesitant to go leaner on the main jet since I'm already smaller than factory and the plug looks good. Location is Northwest Washington close to sea level. He's running 93 octane with 40:1 synthetic. Any advice apreciated gents.

It sounds like your pilot and maybe your needle are giving you the trouble.

Someone with some more experience hopefully will be along shortly. lol

If this link brings you to the page I'm looking at then its some great reading for you about jetting, even if he is using his KDX as a model.
