250r reddish aluminum bearing carrier

Well I just bought this aluminum 250r bearing carrier on eBay about two weeks ago and when I opened the box to my surprise it was a reddish aluminum color and I was wondering how do they get the aluminum to have this reddish color (it might be a stupid question but I was just curious) thanks in advance for the help

called annodizing...look it up...its an electrical process that dyes/coats the aluminium in any color that you want

not hard to do either...we used to do it to paintball gun parts back in the day. Surprising more people don't do it for trike parts

Good luck in your endeavors andnuaa. I have an appreciation for members that take charge and get into these kinds of things. I also do my own powdercoat. I just got sick and f****** tired of getting robbed on powdercoating prices and anodizing. I wanted my stuff to look top notch and last a long time. So I decided to do my own stuff.

Here's a better link with step by step instructions. That other one want's you to buy their stuff... Over priced and over rated. The acid's are easy to find, the rest is easy too. I used to work maintenance at an anodizing plant. Hollar up if you need any more info beyond whats covered in the link I posted. Just remember anodizing makes hydrogen, don't blow yourself up

I sent some stuff out to Reading PA to have anodized, Did a nice job, color was correct. Are you interested doing piece work? I have a axle I'm looking to have done. I found a couple of places that do mil spec but not sure if I want to go there.

Is the axle aluminum? Remember anodize is for aluminum only.

Well any genious can search the net for said chemicals and acids. The link was just what got me curious and into anodizing. Plus the author was accesible. Caswell is another good website with great forums to chat about anodizing. So before you jump the gun and call it a bad site and all they want you to do is buy there crap, read it. Its a good site. The guy went from a nobody to a very sucessful shop.


Busterbrown - check out caswell plating. they sell DIY type kits for plating. But as stated above. You ought to be able to buy elsewhere.
