Here is how I start a cold 350X

Full choke - lever all the way up

Kick it through twice with full throttle, not trying to get it to start here, just getting fuel in the cylindar.

Then kick it with no throttle, usually starts after one, two, or three kicks.

If no fire, two full throttle kicks again, then no throttle kicks.

Once it starts, I have to go to half choke for the trike to idle.

Most of my honda trikes can be extremly cold blooded when they have been sitting. I have had to push/drag start them all at one time or another. It seems that after you get them started once, the cooperate more.

Full choke anytime and let it run like that for a sec. then half then one. Depends on climate, but they almost always need choke when cold. They usually take two kicks to start, even with a working compression release.

I put it on half choke in the summer, full choke in the winter. Let it idle for 30 seconds to a minute, then no choke. Winter time may take more like 2 minutes to warm up, but it will always idle after that. I usually wait about 3-4 minutes while idling before I ride, just to make sure the engine is warm and oil is circulating propperly.

I re routed my decompression lever to the handlebars with a lever instead of the stock auto decomp set up. I find top dead center, give the throttle a few blips, I have a 400ex carb that has an accellerator pump so when you hit the gas some gas is sprayed into the cylinder. Then I pull in the decomp lever and kick it, no choke. With a stock carb, I would put the choke on fully find TDC and kick it, once it starts, half choke then once it gets warm no choke. With my custom decomp lever its like kicking a 200x.

I found that my 350x's started great after sitting 4 months during winter in a unheated garage by doing this:

    Full choke

    Kill switch off

Kick it slowly about 10 times

    Turn switch on

    Kick hard till it starts.

In the summer I do this:

    Kill switch on

    1/2 choke

Kick it hard and it starts in 1-4 kicks.

Its a little cold blooded even in the summer and takes a bit to warm up. It also really revs high with it being on 1/2 choke, so I usually hold it 1/2 way inbetween 1/2 and no choke to where the revs arn't so high.

    1. Ignition Switch OFF
    2. Choke Full On
    3. Kick one time
    4. Ignition switch On
    5. Kick one time and she fires right up

Idle for about 2-3 minutes and then ready for action.

Maybe there are better ways, but I am the original owner of an 85 350X, and unless I had a fouled plug, or the carb needed cleaning it has worked every time.

I usually drag the 110 out of the shed,
    turn on the gas,
    choke on,
    throttle wide open,
get hold of the starter rope and give it a good hard pull to take it by surprise and it'll usually go first pull,
ride for 2 mins with choke on
    then take choke off.
