    200 auto X lighting coil?

    As some of you may know, i've recently put an '84 200s motor in an '85 200x
    i've done all the searches etc and it seems a bit vague on the electrical front. The bike runs great, its awesome, but as one of the threads points out, the 200s motor doesn't churn out enough power for the brighter 200x head lamp. Whats my best way round this, as electricals are my weak point, can i just 'add' a 200x lighting coil? what would this involve? I REALLY want a nice bright headlamp

    You will have to replace it with a 200x lighting coil. There were some upgraded coils for the 200x that would make the light brighter, but Im not sure that they are still being made.

    I just retrofitted the ATC200 lightbulb into the 200X headlight lens.

    Sounds like the quickest work-around to me. At leaset till you find an X lighting coil.
    Have '85 350X-XR500 Hybrid,
    Had Nicholson framed: 90/110, 185s, Gen I 500, Gen II 500
    Had Bandito Framed 90
    Have Vey's Framed 90
    Have too many parts

    Think thats what i'll do for now, just use the 200s bulb.

    I assume the 200x lighting coil is easily fitted? or would i be better using the whole stator-plate? Planning to road-register it in the new year so i will be needing those extra volts!

    I'm bumping an old thread.

    I didn't realize the auto motors don't produce as much power to the headlight as the original X motors do.
    Is it as simple as replacing the weaker lighting coil with the X lighting coil? I bought a halogen bulb because it's supposed to 10 times brighter. I was disappointed when it wasn't. Now I know the real reason. If I remember right the stator plate is behind the recoil?

    I came across a Ricky Stator coil on eBay last night.
    I've heard a lot of bad things about that company.
    I happen to have a X stator plate with both coils attached still. Problem is when I picked up the machine. The PO had the stator cover pulled off and it had been sitting with rain water and snow in it for several years. I'm a little leary about using it. Obviously, I would have to test it first if it's my only option.

    Edit - Also, I didn't ask where to find a coil. I asked if swapping the lighting coils was my solution. I know how to search for parts.

    I bought a complete 200x motor about a week after posting this thread, thus returning the 200s motor to its original home.... both of which machines I still have today B)
    I've often debated purchasing a ricky stator coil (75w i think) as the lights seem lazy on the 200x...

    A: I learned something new.
    B: There's been a lot of Auto-X talk lately. Figured other people could benefit from the information as well.

    I found these a few minutes ago. They look like they will fit the 200X headlight socket. I'm going to give them a try for now. I won't be able to do a lighting coil right away. I haven't been able to ride in months so I'm taking advantage of a running machine.

    I have been using this on my 185 AutoX and it works fine on low beam (55w) but does not turn on at high beam (60w). I have to test to rule out a wiring or switch problem. The price is right, less than $5 shipped.

    Ricky Stator did a custom stator rewind for me back in the 80s and it was great. 100+ watts on a 185s.
    More recently, I put a Ricky Stator ignition stator coil set on one of my Tecates and it works great.

    Nothing but good experience for me.

    I think the problem is there is two companies with similar names that keep getting confused for one another. This was discussed on another thread on here a while back. The Ricky Stator stuff i have used in the past, 250ES replacement, was good and caused no issues for me.

    I would love to get a 100W output stator in my 200ES, but sadly since the 200ES uses the dual coils, one for ignition one for the alternator output, your pretty limited on it. I found a few replacements that were supposed to be something like 60-70w, but people have had mixed results with them.
