How do I know if I need a new float valve?

My 84 Big Red will start on the first pull, run for about 5 seconds, then die. After that I can't start it again. I think it is flooding. Would that be the float valve?

If it is the float, after it sits a little while with the gas on, gas should come out of the carb and/or overflow hose. I could also not be getting enough gas. The float could be sticking up, and not letting gas in quick enough.

the carb could be dirty or fuel filter clogged.

Next time it does it pull the spark plug out immediately and see if its wet. If its dry you are running outta fuel. Clean the petcock and take the carb apart and clean every part real good.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.
