What thumb throttles for 85R work?

Atc thumb throttles are gettin pricey for ones in not so good condition, so I'm wondering what works? 400ex? 450R? Yfz? Ltz? Lookin for something kinda cheap and plentiful. I had my eye on one from an Lt250R also, but that one is skyrocketing now too. Anyone running those terrycable thumb/twist combo throttles? One of those would be great, but only if you could lock out the twist as I have a habit of sometimes yankin the throttle when I jump/slide and what not that is the only reason I prefer a thumb, but the twist would be good for extended/leisurely rides.

On a side note I am running a 38mm Kehin, does the stock R cable work or is something else needed? How do I i.d. the carb? I.E. P.E., P.W.K. and what not.

Yeah the R thumbers do bring good money, but you can catch them on ebay from time to time reasonable.. whenever I see one listed i watch it and pick it up if it goes cheap,, ive probly got 4-5 extras one hand just so i have them... seems every time i buy an R it has a twister or some wrong thumber that dosent open the carb all the way..

the 83-84 R work on the 85-86 as they have the cam assembly for more pull too... but im not sure about the 81-82...

    PE is round slide
    PJ is oval slide
PWK will be a D shape slide

Stock cable will work on the PJ but will not work on the PWK's I run a 400ex thumb with a 39PWK and its a better feel than the stock 250R thumb. The cable required to run the PWK's is adjustable so it will work with most thumb throttles.

I have a terry cable twist/thumb. The thumb throttle is somewhat ackward to use(so is almost every thumb to me). I'm twist all the way, when my friends ride my quad with the twist/thumb and its in the thumb position, they say it takes some ketting used to, but its not bad. Its really easy to push also, it has a longer than stock arm. I personally can't stand a thumb throttle, almost instant hand cramping and thumb hurting badly. I used a 400ex thumb throttle at one time, it wouldn't open the carb all the way, it got changed to a 85-89 250r one.

So Deathman, on that twist/thumb throttle, is there a way to lock out the twist so you cant turn it? This is my biggest concern as I dont want to accidentally jack the twister and shoot me somewhere I dont want to be. I have never really owned a two-wheeler so I have never adjusted to twist well.

0 problems opening the carb all the way, there's actually 2 adjustment spots on my cable so maybe thats the problem everyone else is claiming it won't open. If your using a PWK you should also have 0 problems if your using the same cable. There's an adjustment spot right at the end of the cable and another one about 6 to 8" down from the thumb end of the cable, if it isn't opening enuff the cable needs to be lengthened in either spot or both to make up the difference.

I say to heck with a thumb esp for an R, and a twister on that baby! Heck I have given away 2-3 thumbers in the past few years, as I always put twists on mine.

there is a button under the thumb housing, when you push it in, its thumb throttle and when its out, twist throttle. The thumb throttle will still work when in twist mode, I wasn't comforable with that at first, my hand never goes near it.

I tried adjusting the cable with the screw using a 400ex throttle, in order for the carb to open all the way, you have to have the cable adjusted so there is no slack and its pulling on the cable, thus making it idle pretty high.
