Could this be an 87 ATC 250R?? Picture inside!!

Hey guys I saw a pic of this ATC 250R on ebay. The owner is selling the pipe I guess...it looks like an '87 250R....is there anyone here that can tell this is not an '87.

I will try emailing the guy the selling pipe...that seems like the easiest way to find out...but I would rather imagine for a little while that is COULD be an 87 R.

Here is the pic...can you see anything that would lead you to believe its not an 87R?

Looks like your average everyday 85 or 86. My machine is the exact same except for it having a red swingarm.

The 87 model looked just like the 86 and like the 85 with a few exceptions...(listed below). I am convinced that if you took the the front fender, radiator shrouds, fork boots, and rear fenders off of an 86 you could not tell (except from the id tag) whether it was an 86 or 87.

Its certainly not an '85 because that year the engine was painted black. In '86 Honda chose to paint the engine a silver color they labeled as 'dark silver shot'. As far as it being an 87 the only differences the 87 had were:

1. Only year to have White fenders
2. White Headlight Assembly
3. New Graphics on the rear fenders that say "R"
4. Reflector on towards the top of the front forks.
5. White Air scoops.

There is no indication from the picture that is is not an '87, but there is not indication from the picture that it is either!

Well....we will never know unless the owner mails a pic of the sticker proving that its an '87

humm.. i know someone that can make 87 frame decals... what does it take to prove it that it is a true 87?

Unlikely thats an 87, I say this because:

Maier makes white scoops and fenders
The stickers on the scoops do not match the design of stickers on the 87 ATC's picture
an 87 TRX motor is easily transfered into an ATC, or coated back to that color

However, it does have red fork boots (Easily gotten through the aftermatket)....but the thing that interestes me the most is it looks like the headlight assembly is WHITE from what I can see of it (very top right hand corner). Who knows, I guess its possible but I find it highly unlikely.

Maier offers 85 250R head light shells on their website for 40 bux. Including the color white.

And never rule out the magic of Captain Krylon!

I'd say 86 with white maier plastics and red aftermarket fork boots.

Yes, Maier makes headlight shells. I just got all the body plastics from them , except the tank, to make a white 85 250r.

only a oversize one. but i have seen severall stock size black ones on ebay. had i still had my 500R project it would have been black

Sorry guys....You must've misunderstood me. When I said stickers I meant VIN# stickers on the frame...that tells the year, date made, ect...

Its not an 87...the owner just emailed me. Oh well...it was fun to think about it.

I also found out about ebay Canada....someone should check that thing once a week for anything related to an '87 ATC.
