Just thought I'd splash some green on here. I need new pics, i've since added new white number plate back-ground on the headlight, blasted the front and rear hubs (rear hubs need paint now) and removed the disc & fork guards and green airbox for now. I guess I'll wait, I would like to shelve the Gators and add new aftermarket blue fork boots.

WOW thats a lot of green !!!! that thing has loads of plastic!!!! where did you get it what shape was it in and what did you do to make it look like it does today..... and have you rode a 84 tecate thiers one in the paper for 300 needs a littel work but it runs ? thanks and nice bike!!!

Have I ridden an 84 Tecate, I can only laugh.... Yes! I've ridden many a trail on my ol' red 84!

The first two pics show my 84 from when I used to ride it (1st pic) last ride was in '99 before the main bearings went out and the state it was in when I decided to part it out last year (2nd pic). I had lost interest in it because I've had my 86 Tecate for a long time and I got my Tri-Z summer before last. I regret parting the 84. But I still have the frame, front end, original gas tank (nice, red) and original rear fender (red, faded & painted), seat, shock, rear wheels and tires, radiator and a few other odds and ends.

The second pic of the 84 is a partial restored state, I had a fresh powder coat on the +2 WestCoast swingarm with new updated WestCoast decals. I had another brand new, never used west-coast laying in the shed. I had the bearing carrier powder coated to match the re-furbished west coast arm. The rear fender on it, thanks to the miracle of ebay, i purchased in 98 or 99. It was a new "take-off" fender with the Tecate/Uni-Trak decal on it that had been shelved for years. In 2001, again thanks to ebay, I got the fuel tank thats on it. It was another new "take-off" item that had been on a shelf for years. still had the factory decals. "take-off" items are usually red and were removed from new red Tecate's years ago so they could be switched to green. The front fender is the same one in both pics. It was in great shape. It also had a DG pipe and Cobra-Type round silencer. Might be a DG. I still have it, but not the pipe. It had a 38mm flat-slide mikuni that I still have, but will eventually wind up on my Z. In addition to the +2 swingarm, it had a +2/side aftermarket axle. In pic1 I was running ITP gold steel 8x8 rear rims with the Nankang copy Turf Tamers at 18x9-8. In pic 2, it's got stock rear rims with 22x11-10 fast trekkers. I still have all those items, but one of the Nankang tires got ruined. The motor I split and polished up the cases and bead blasted the cylinder and head. It needed a bore and sleeve or re-plate in addition to the main bearings replace so I sold it as a parts engine. I kept the ignition as back up for my 86. I also had some new UFO drum brake/fork guards on it.

Anyway I got the bright idea to part out the trike and sell of all my 84 tecate related aftermarket items. I do regret it, but I think I made some Tecate owners happy and most of the parts went on 3 very nice Tecate 3 wheelers. I will probably end up e-baying what's left of it.

Now for the 86, Here's a before picture taken a couple years ago before I put new plastic on the trike last summer. I still have allot of 86 goodies and will keep them.

Nice Tecate! You've got one of each racer there! Very cool! No, I don't want to sell anymore of my Tecate stuff at this time.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I think $300 is a good deal as long as it runs good and is complete. By saying it needs a little work your guess is as good as mine until you see it. Does that mean motor work, body work, electrical, ????? As far as a trail bike, I enjoyed riding mine. even with the long swingarm and wider axle. I always thought the stock 84/85 was a little short out back anyway. It doesn't have the lowend of the others either. They hit hard on top, are very quick, but don't have a real high top speed stock. Watch for leaky lower mounts on the radiator, bad main bearings, and weak spark. Let us know if you do get it! As far as 84 KXT parts for sale, at this time I'm wanting to give selling them on ebay a shot. I'll post links to the auctions like others do on the classifieds page!

how do you check for main bearing seals going out??

It's not really the seals, its the main bearings themselves. I guess you can't tell if the main seals are bad unless it's running lean because its pulling air through. or doing a pressure check. For the main bearings, their a quick check. You pull the flywheel cover off. It's just 4 bolts. you firmly grab the flywheel in both hands and lift up and down. Yes, the Tecate will enjoy this... Anyway, If you feel even the slightest movement or hear a "clunk" sound, that's bad news. A tecate will run fine with main bearings that are headed south, but the engine will be more noisy than usual due to the added vibration in the crank. This added vibration WILL loosen the magnets on the inside of the stock flywheel. they are just glued on and if a magnet comes off it might grenade your whole ignition.


And, like it states in the service manual, do not try to grasp the flywheel with the motor running! :shock:

wut size tires and rims on the first green pic? that's exactly wut i want, tiny little turf tamers or wutever they are with a low profile sidewall.
