Finally putting exhaust on my 1984 250R

I'm not actually sure what it is but I'm finally putting exhaust on my air cooled R. I got the expansion chamber for $45 but it didn't quite line up with my stock silencer. So I have been trying to get an aftermarket silencer for it for some time now but they've been going for $80-ish for quite awhile. Well I finally got one for $8.50! Wow. I got it in the mail yesterday and it's in super nice condition, can't wait to try it out. Anyone know what my pipe is?

ask goat to post pics of the JEMCO pipe on my old Air R, that looks nearly the same, it will be stamped though jemco on it somewhere usualy on the large part of the chamber, it may have to be blasted to find out. I didnt know mine was a jemco untill I had it blasted and ceremicoated. If it is a jemco, be prepared, there is no other pipe for the air R's that work better!

Freakin sweet if it is! Once I get a few things ironed out and if this pipe works well when I give it a try I will be stripping it down for coating. I know a guy that will high temp coat it and polish cheap or I was even thinking of chroming it if it turns out really well. Sounds like I should notice a nice difference over stock, can't wait.
So The Goat has your old air cooled R? I did not know that. Hopefully he chimes in. I searched for pics of it but it always had a stock pipe.

I had one of those pipes, exactly the same. I see them quite a bit on ebay. I don't think it is a jemco. I bought it for 10 bucks and it had a nice aluminum silencer. I traded mine for a bassani because the guy said it was for a 81-82 but its for a 83-84. It fit the 81, just tight. It was loud as hell and i really didn't notice any increase, it was more of a power loss. It is a super light pipe though. The guy i got it from said it was an Answer.

Well I hope thats not it! lol. And I think the loudness would be more the silencer than the pipe itself. Are you sure it looked the same as mine? It's kinda tough to see in my pic but the stinger actually curves way in, I didn't think an 81 pipe was like that. I had a NOS kerker full system for an 81/82 and tried to put it on an 83 that I had, didn't work at all. Also see where my pipe just starts to get larger and how it flares way out at one point, did your pipe have that also?

And damn it, I am thinking it is not a Jemco as well, that sucks.

The pipe that i had that was like yours wasn't for an 81, it was for a 83-84, but it did somewhat fit. I tried the same silencer on the stock pipe and it was much quieter, and there was a lot more power. And yes the pipe i had flared out exactly like yours, and the stinger curved in, just not so much down. Its kinda hard to see, but they are very close. It was very loud, but it really sounded badass. It gave that 2 stroke crackle.

It does look very similar, hopefully I have better luck though! I'm pretty busy this weekend but I'm gonna try to get it on there soon.

Well I finally got it on there today and I gotta say I am more than happy. The power is good but the real change is the throttle response, it's real snappy! I actually had to hit the rear brake to keep from dragging the grab bar, I wasn't expecting that at all.
Yamatrike I am thinking this could be something different than what you have. You said you ran a stock silencer on yours. I've had the expansion pipe for a few months and the stock silencer would not line up, it it was just hanging on the wall. I finally picked up the aftermarket silencer and it would not work with the stock expansion chamber but when I put the two aftermarket pieces together they lined up perfectly and it went right on with no issues at all.
