Hey, how come the other end of your tool didn't have a place for a wrench or am I missing something??

I then installed the pinion bearing retaining nut and fitted it up in the vise to torque it properly. I need to champher the ID hole of my tool so that I can weld a socket in there nicely. Just so happens that a 15/16th socket fits snuggley in the hole thats needed for clearing the pinion shaft/driveshaft gear.
Steve, I just champhered it and had the socket welded in. All set now.
Bearings and seals are from my supplier. ALLBALLS kits too. Diff. Kit for 85-87. #25-2008. $31.76.

Admittingly, I'm confused now.....
That tool you made is to bury the pinion bearing odd holder nut (or I'll call it that) and I didn't know that there was a torque for that nut, but then again, everything has a torque!
I figured the only torque they gave for that pinion shaft was for the front nut (might me 19mm or something.....)
What do they call that prick versus the other?

Pinion Bearing Lock Nut per honda service manual.
80 foot lbs.
No it's not!! It's
960.0000001 INCH lbs.![]()
Funny, thats the ONLY machine that it's manual I own is a ClymerDefinitely mucho more info in the OEM shop manuals.
I still say you could have hexed the opposing side to accept a 2.25" socket or so (I'm guessing)
Seriously though, I assume you made that whole tool in one shot, in other words, it did not leave the chuck or other means of mounting (collet etc)....... Otherwise, you would have to flip it around, indicate things back in and machine the other side??
Believe me, I've been out of machining long enough to NOT know what capabilities these things have now. It makes me want to use my South Bend as a snow plow, or boat anchor or post for a mail box![]()
Anyhow, back on topic, nice work Jeffmeister!! I wish I could have met ya in PA. I always had an open machine for someone to use and LOUIS didn't even break them!!![]()
I hope User knows how lucky he is to have hooked up with you![]()
Hmmmmmmmmm, USER?? What a name!! I've had a couple of demz, but they had BIG HOOTZ!!![]()

Steve, next package I send you I will print one out and bind it in the manual binder I have at work.
Yes it was done in all one shot. About ten minutes actually. I could have done a hex for a wrench but intended on welding a socket to it for the torque purpose. On this machine I would just have to transfer the part to the sub spindle, rotate that head you see 180 degrees and machine the hex on the opposite side. Its one bad mama jama. Trust me. It doenst play around with someone talented enough to RUN IT.
The old southy is a great piece to have in the shop. Its good enough to make most common things to need to do quality work.
I'd have love to been in Pennsyltucksuckafuckafools PA ride, but might as well work why I still have a job.
LOL USER!

Steve u know i have a name!!! JIM!!!Anyway i am very thankful to have a great LOCAL friend like jeff. He is extremely nice! If it was not for him this rebuild would not be happening. Granted i only get to see him once a week to work on it for a few hours but its better than nothing. Learning alot to.
You still got a pm to respond to now that i think about it. My goal, if my finances allow, is to have it done for trike fest...i am hoping and praying. Currently the motor needs to be dropped off at the shop and frame needs blasted and coated.
