Starter on a Tri-Z and other sport Two Strokes????????????

I know this question has been asked before by a few unfamiliar with Two Stroke engines. But, I have a new twist I wanted to bring up. A while back I watched this guy playing with his RC truck. It was one of those high end ones that ran on pre-mix. He had a little had held starter for it that he would plug in and spin the engine with. Evidentially my health is going to prevent me from kicking over a Tri-Z. So I was wondering if this idea (in principle) would work for our Two Stroke sport trikes.

You should be able to make something work. I know that is the type of starter they use on the 100cc shifter carts and I have also seen it on some drag bikes.

    Lots O Trikes!!!!!

well it would have to be cordless, if an 18 volt drill is powerfull enough i don't know, and you have to carry it with you, got an extra kick shaft? I'll mill a hex on it. even better would be a driver that has the spline on it, that way you keep the original shaft, ooohhh I wanna try it.

well the kicker shaft only turns maybe less than 150 degrees so i think that would be hard to do.

Maybe putting a drill on the flywheel nut?

Always park on a hill and bump start the , just dont stall it.

sorry to hear about your health issues....

something could be made to adapt a ring gear onto the flywheel.. then adapt a starter into a custom stator cover.. adapting onto the kickstarter is the wrong aproach.. New ktms use an electric starter.. an engine swap would be the easy way to get an e-start

I have a stupid question. Please don't take me wrong when I ask this.

You said your health is or will be keeping you from kick starting it. Will your health not keep you from having the ability to ride it too? I just can't imagine riding it being less physical than starting it.

Yea, the flywheel approach would be the way to go. I the can make handhelds with the power to start 2000hp top fuel cars, I"m sure you can find something compact here. Ever think about just converting to a stationary starter with a battery setup?

Buck, there was a member on here that rode a Z, and he was a para-palegic (paralyzed from the waist down). I think his screen handle was Wolf something. If he could do it, I'm sure Lonesome will do just fine for whatever reason is troubling him.

I understand. While asking the question I had that scenerio in my head as a possiblity.

I did not know there were any responses tot my question. I guess I did not get the emails.

Any who, yes one issue is stalling out on the trail once I am far away. Unless I carry a heavy hand held starter I doubt it would be practical. For a trail ridden Z, I have my doubts about how feasible this would be. I would still like to try though.

Now for my drag Z, yes I want to figure this out. That thing is going to be a to start.

Right now my health is improving. I am slowing regaining some of what I had prior to my injuries. However, so much damage was done I know sooner or later I am going to have to face that. So I would like to start preparing now for some of the challenges I may face

Look into throwin a starter on the Z, I imagine it wouldnt be too difficult. First you will need a starter, easy. Next you will need to mount a battery alon with a solenoid and charging circuit to your stator, shouldnt be too hard. You will just need a skilled automotive electrician to modify a charging circuit into your stator, along with maybe increasing the output. Something could probably be scavenged from another model. Lastly would be to connect the starter to the motor somehow. Maybe take the return spring off of the kicker shaft so that it will just spin clockwise? Then you machine a gear to fit onto the kicker shaft in place of the kicker, then mate that to the starter, and voila! Electric start. Sounds feesible to me.

The gear ratios through the primary drive are not in the starters favor...The torque generated by a 200lb man jumping on a 10" kicker would make even an automotive starter jealous... IMO the only way a small compact starter would work is off the flywheel..

That does sound pretty feasable. I wonder how much weight it would add. I have heard some good ideas for a hand held starter for my drag Z. But I am not sure if the work and money invovled for a trail rider is worth it.
