Pics: What year 250R swing arm is this?

    Hey

So, really tried hard to find comparison pics between a 1985 and 1986 250R swing arm but failed to find anything.

If you know what the two look like, take a quick look at these pictures and let me know what you think it is.

Personally I think it's a '85 swinger with a '86 or newer axle in it. We have to figure it out so we know what parts to order for the bearings/carrier, etc.

    Anyway, thanks for any feedback!

Its an 85 bearing carrier for sure. Looks like a whole 85 swinger. Need to see the brake linkage better, but if it has a linkage arm, its 85, if it doesnt and there is a stud where the caliper mount bracket rides on the swinger, its an 86.

    but looks 85 for sure

Definitely 85 swinger and carrier. That caliper is an 86 with an 85 bracket.

    Alright, thanks for the replies.

Now I have to figure out my bearing carrier options and axle options. Looking to upgrade the carrier and get a +4 axle for it.

    Off to spend some $$$!

You can stuff an 86 carrier in it as long as you use an 86 bracket and holder. You have to shave the carrier down on the sprocket side to use the 85 axle and you have to weld a stud on the swinger for the caliper holder.

Hrm, then that leaves me with a new question.

I can find '85 carriers from lonestar and a few others. Why would I want to put an '86 carrier in it instead?

I am assuming that '86 and newer axles will all fit regardless of what year swinger/carrier.

If I can find the '85 parts and I can use the '86+ axles, I don't see the benefit of the '86 carrier. I'm hoping you guys don't tell me something here that makes me spend more money

    Thanks again!

I dont think the 86 carrier will go into the 85 swinger without heavy persuasion...AKA a B.F.H......
If you do get a 86 carrier in the 85 swinger,It wont be pretty!

The 85 carrier and swinger is significantly smaller in diameter than the 86 and up set-ups.

The 86-89 TRX axle will fit the 85 carrier.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

Alright, so I'm good to go with a new '85 carrier and a 86-89 TRX axle of my choice.

I don't really care that the '85 carrier is smaller in diameter since I don't supercross this thing anyway

    Thanks for the help gents!

    Hey,

Well apparently the 86 carrier will not fit in the 85 swinger without a
    B.F.H.
Now, I have one of them B.F.H things in the garage...but I am just not willing to turn it loose on my swinger at this time

    I appreciate the offer though!
