    Rear Strut ???s

I saw this on fleaBay a couple of weeks ago.

Are these strictly for drag racing or would they work for ice racing?

This one almost looks homemade. Are they sold aftermarket?

I was thinking this would really be an easy way to drop a trike down.

    Anybody ever use one?

Not really good for ice racing or flat tracking. You need some suspension to take up the bumps. If your tires are bouncing like a basketball then you aren't putting any power to the ground.

Yup. But it doesn't mean it was the ideal way to do it. They used to use air shocks to put big tires under the back of muscle cars but that doesn't help traction either.

Struts work pretty good for flat track, as long as the track isnt too bumpy... I won many races with a rear strut on my banshee..... think of it this way... If you have you trike/quad setup alittle higher in the front it will shift more weight to the rear, so the small bumps wont do anything, and the more throttle you give it the more weight is being transfered to the rear,, and the more weight in the back the less it is going to bounce in the rear.

Im not saying the strut is the way to go... with some of the high end shocks out there ya cant beat them... but a strut is not that bad,,, and a heck of alot cheaper than a shock.

I would never run a strut,

You need some weight transfer. When you use a strut your loosing alot of traction. Some of the drag bikes get away with running Rigid, BUT then you have to get the axle up front an a wheelie bar way back.

Back in the day when that was the only option ok, BUT nowdays go with an adjustable dogbone to lower it is much better then a strut.
