    Need your HELP!!!

Well I'm looking for a quad. I'm thinking of the Z400 I can buy around here a 2004 for $2800.00... I have also seen a 1999 very nice 400ex for $1950!!! cheap which would save some money.
Or I have thought about a new Z400 from the dealer 2008 for $4000.00 so many choices I need feed back from someone. Oh ya I'm 220lb and ride dunes and dirt about 50/50. I also ride I would say easy I'm not hard on my stuff and I'm not really a racer if you know what I mean. Would a Z400 be worth $1000 more then a ex?

I am partial to the "Z" but just words to think about.
The Z is liquid cooled. Looks like it might have aftermarket shocks (o4 did not have rezzies). The Z is 5 years newer. Does the EX have reverse? I have a Z and an 88"R" and I ride the Z more. I do mostly woods riding and love the lo-end grunt of the Z.

If your willing to buy a new Z400 then look at the new Honda 400EX with reverse. The price should be comparable with the Z.

I know a lot of the 450 guys are going back to the 400EX and putting 440 kits in them. Lots of grunt and a powerband that you can use without banging on the rev limiter like the 450's.

The Z sounds overpriced. I bought my '03 KFX 400 (same thing as Z) in November 2004 for $3000. You should be able to find a Z/KFX in the $2000-2300 range.

Well I went to the dealer and found out there really $4600.00 by the time you walk out the door. I was thinking I could get one for $3800.00 paying with cash but that was a no go, so used I think will be a better deal.

It looks as if I could put a 426 kit and a stage 2 cam in the EX and it would still be under the price of the Z. But it's air cooled so......

I'd definately do the 426 kit and cam. That thing would be a ripe runner and aircooled reliable as well. Don't think less of the EX because its aircooled.

OK so I was looking at Craigslist for your area and I see the price of quads is quite a bit higher than here in my area. So take my post above with a grain of salt.

They are both well built machines that have stood the test of time. The Z and EX are probably comparable in handling, as the Z was based off the EX's geometry, almost identical. The Z has liquid cooling and reverse, but come hop up time the Z is a little pricier (sp?) due to the dual overhead cam design. Which ever unit you choose, I'm sure you will be happy with.

I have owned a 400ex. It was a good machine, even better with wiseco piston, cold air intake, pipe. But it was still underpowered compared to stock z400. If my choice was one of them 2 I would choose the Z and that is me being a Honda guy.
