85 big red restoration

hello,i picked up this big red basically as a spare parts bike.she runs but is in need of some work mechanically and cosmetically.i stripped down the bike and than i decided i might as well restore it since i love big reds and they are getting harder to get.

I got a new cobra exhaust for it if your interested, Sell it for $100, just needs some good heat paint on the header pipe. Also have some extra stuff like a healight guard & headlight. Pic are in my sig. Under 3 wheeler parts For Sale

Good luck on the restore. I have an 85 runner and an 86 parts bike, That soon I am gonna make into one really good one with the 86 chassis and engine.

I just picked up a 250es. Got a good deal on it, paid $250. No spark, stuck in reverse, ned camo on EVERYTHING, flat front tire, a real piece of crap. I jumped the neutral safety switch, bypassed the fuse, put gas in it and it started on the second kick. Hadn't run in over a year and had been sitting behind someone house. Pretty sure the shifting fork is messed up inside the case, as soon as the Clymers comes in I'll have that torn apart too. I've always wanted one of these since I was a kid. Now I'm just a bigger kid. Any ideas on how to get this thing out of reverse let me know before I tare it down. Tried everything I know so far. I've seen on this board how this has happened before but never saw a fix. These things are really awesome.

i would wait also it could be several things and with out a manual i wouldnt tear into it either.

I don't see it, I see the 200's and the sx's but not the 250es?

Are the sx and es the same? I didn't know if the sx had reverse or not. Great link.

yes, the drivelines and engines are the exact same. only some body stuff and frame is slightly different.
