Race Ready '09

I'm as ready as I'm gonna get at this point, my first race of the season is this Sunday. We are running Caddo Point, you may recognize the name as the place where the Maxxis 12hours of America was run a couple years back. It is a nice place, not a personal favorite, but a good track to race. The track has a tight, fast 6 mile or so woods section, a couple high speed pasture runs and a motocross track that is the practice track for pro racers Hunter and Cody Miller. I say that to say that this moto track isn't like your average local MX track, it is a nasty, scary of a MX track. Us XC boys usually just take it easy and survive it.

I went out tonight and wiped off the fenders good and applied the last of the decals I'll run this year.

The bark busters are new for '09. I never ran handguards of any kind but the last race of last season changed my mind. The race course had at least 300 bushes and limbs from small trees sticking into the track, my hands were hurting when the race was over. The grab bar from PRM is new for '09 also. This is their desert bar that I had them powder coat blue. It looks great and makes the rear much easier to handle compared to the stock grab bar.

New additions for '09 are also, new ITP Holeshot XC tires all around, new front wheels and YFZ450 front takeoff shocks. I've already talked to Josh at Wiigstyle about redoing my shocks, but I'm gonna have to wait till I make a few payments on my new toy hauler before they get done.

I'm ready, and getting excited now. Luck out to all you racers out there, give'em hell...

ever get those issues with the jarring of your arms worked out?

I remember you had talked about hitting a heavy bag for a while there.

Yeah, I did, but the bag still isn't around. Notice the Flexx handlebars, fixes the jarring and impact felt at the wrist and arms, best $300 I've ever spent for a quad. And a steering stabilizer helped allot too.

Nice! I can't say that I've seen anybody mx'ing a Raptor before.

good luck at the race. my 1st one is on April 5th. it's the 1st of the PA state rounds. they have 12 races spread out at different track all over eastern PA. they have a award banquet at the end of the year of you do good.


going to go to a couple GNCC nationals also. one is only 2 1/2 hours away from home at Somerset PA. the track is 5 minutes away from where the 911 plain wrecked

hears the only pic i have that will download on the site the rest are too big. it's a 2001 400ex with a 86 250r motor

Thanks man. There's a Raptor racer I know from another forum that is from Pa. He races a Pa XC series and some GNCC too, he rides a blue Raptor with red hood and tank topper. His number is 45. Ever run into him?

I'd bet your quad runs strong. It is light and nimble. What kind of suspension do you have on it?

it handles real good it the tight woods but could use a longer swingarm. just the normal 1 1/2" longer. it lifts the front end some when powering out of corners in high speed parts. i have Razr2 on it know all the way around they are way better then the Irazr;s it had when i bought it. the fronts suck causing it to push real bad.

i have works tripple rate shcoks with bottles on the front i got off ebay for $200 it's a big improvment over the lousy 400ex stock ones.

the back is a stock one redone with aa dual spring kit. it's way to stiff for xc racing going to put stock one back on.

I'm thinking I might head up to Waynoka this summer. We just bought a big toy hauler, thought it might be nice to go park it in a nice spot at Little Sahara for a while and really enjoy the dunes. I did allot more wrenching than riding the last time I went to LS.

You should be good on an R in an XC series. Are you doing a nice suspension? I haven't seen any pics, put some up.

Heck man, put some original Razrs on the rear and you won't lift the frontend as bad and the rear will slide better for you. I like your quad though, get'em-hell up there in Pa, good luck.

Yes on the suspension. Putting on +2 long travel a arms, and a new rear shock. Engine is a esr 310 with trx 9 porting, rad valve, esr trx11 pipe (hill shooter), 38mm air stryker, reed spacer. I might run out of coin before I get to the looks on it.

thanks for the compliment about the quad. it does good for a $2000 quad of ebay. i had a guy want to buy it in mid race his 400ex died it a real tight technical parts wear your going slow and he yelled at me asking if i wanted to sell it. at the GNCC's they make you sit with your quad till the end of the race then they pull you out.

yeah i want to put the original type on next the rear Irazr's sslide way to easy . i got all the tires from my one friend for $150 for 2 sets. he gets new ones no matter what half way threw the season. they have over 80% tread left on the rear and the fronts are barely wore. he uses the originals on the rear now due to what you said.

four of the 8 had holes in the side. i'm using the good ones from the set. sold the bad ones for $50 to a local guy that just trial rides. my friend uses tire balls so at least he can finish a race.
