Thumbs down federal ban on 2 & 4 wheelers for kids under 13?

WTF is this? has anyone seen anything else? I'd like to see the actual law, but I'm having a hard time finding it..

    http://cbs11tv.com/consumer/Youth.Di....2.940110.html

A law designed to protect children from lead-based toys is now in effect. The motivation for the new law came after a recall of dangerous toys made in China and tainted with lead. But, the law also includes a ban on popular dirt bikes and ATVs for kids, and that has some local families upset.

Dirt bikers of all ages hit the trails of Trophy Club Park at Lake Grapevine. Teenagers Brent Langley and Aaron Carnahan have been rough riders since fourth grade. But under the current law, they would not be allowed to touch an off-road bike before the age of 13.

"My nephew is five and he's got a little four-wheeler," said Langley. "My neighbor is seven and he can ride better than I can."

Kristie McConnaughy and her husband grew up with the all-terrain vehicles and would like to pass one on to their 3-year-old daughter, Alyssa. But the miniature dirt bikes for kids have parts that contain lead. The youth-sized two- and four-wheelers are now illegal.

"It's going to hurt a lot of people," McConnaughy told CBS 11 News. "It's in our blood, our family. We'll continue to do what we do."

Riders agree that lead should not be in toys for kids, but believe that these bikes should not be included in the law.

But in the meantime, local motorcycle dealerships have put away all their items for children. The loss in sales, they say, will trickle down.

"People who use them tend to camp and ride and visit local hotels and restaurants," said Mark Lamb with Honda DFW. "So, it's going to affect the economy more than just sale of the vehicle."

Sitting back in aww......glad I didn't vote for that socialistic guy (Obama). It doesnt affect us adults.....but the poor kids it will crush. I'm speaking as a Police Officer, and I think this so called law is "Crap". Haven't seen the literature on this law yet, all I can say is "hope everyone has private property". I have been riding since I was six years old.....and was raised to be responsible on these machines. But that isn't the case here....hope all you people with families keep doing what you do for the children. Time to protest...

So this is just a law stating that the kids can't ride them, not that the dealers can't sell them, correct?

    Lame

Yea Land of the Free My Ass. This is just plain ridiculous. I asked the guy at the dealer the other day what they are going to do with all of their Youth ATV stock, and he said "Let it collect dust" He was pissed, told me to petition. Even Helmets and riding gear, so stupid. I guess there is gonna be a big surplus of Youth ATV's when this dumb law is overthrown. I asked the guy to sell me a mini Quad for cash cheap and it seemed possible. Might be a good time to get a youth ATV for cheap if you can find the right place and have cash.
How bad does this hurt the ATV companies? Any jobs lost here in the land of the free? I know the youth market was booming until now.

The way my dealer explained it, it only bans the sale of new youth atvs or parts, because of lead. My dealer told me he could still sell the 08 TRX90, but not the 09 TRX90, because the 08 was marked No one under 12 may operate, and the 09 is marked No one under 10 may operate, or vice-versa. The CRF50 is off limits for now. If you already own a machine, you can still operate it and sell it, just not brand new ones.
