MY Selvys 200R Privateer's Revenge BUILD *A TON of PICS*

Hi, folks. Here is a cool article from 3 Wheeling magazine I will be using for reference on a current Selvys 200R build. Also Ive posted some Selvys ads and Westcoast items. My project is coming along well and is in need of a heart transplant. The heart is in need of a complete overhaul. Here are some pictures of my previous and current progress. More to come soon with any future spare time!

Here are some pictures of the build from day one, to current (2/21/09) I always encourage comments and/or suggestions, so let me know your thoughts. I would love to hear your ideas, as I want this bike to be enjoyed by all and your input is very welcomed, good, bad or otherwise! I originally started this project as a "out of the crate" new OEM restoration. Then as most go, it has evolved into a more race replica, and now a full on Selvys privateer 200R racer. Thus the earlier headlight/taillight and toolbox removal and vintage old school aftermarket goodies have now started to sprout up. I currently have the following items installed. Westcoast rear hubs, NASA fork preload adjuster air valve caps, red Aussie front # plate, rear OHTSU flat track tires, NOS Hondaline short track kit, hight adjustable rear strut/dog bone, low profile '85 seat foam w/ '86 style CEET cover, and FMF exhaust. I will be installing the following already purchased items soon. SELVYS 200R engine (after complete restoration), SELVYS complete SONIC exhaust, Westcoast standard length adjustable swingarm, and 200R decal set.

Andy, That looks great. you must have used the same PC red color that you used for mine. It looked just like the one I had in my living room . After looking at the engine color I now know that the mix I used must have been wrong. Yours looks dead on.

    Nice job.

Regarding technical data, the article scanned above ("Privateer's Revenge") gives a good technical overview of the engine cylinder, case and carb mods, per Bob Selvys crew. I will be opening up the cases and duplicating the case mods on a new set of cases to original Selvys 200R spec. This will be costly, but top notch. The current cases have suffered chain derailment damage. Though a good welder repaired the damage, I just can't see leaving this defect on a good restoration. I will post pictures after disassembly and after the new cases are done. I hope to have more technical data upon opening it up and documenting the progress.

    200R SEAT by Mosh's

OC- I have purchased reproduction 200R decals to replace all the 250R stickers. I don't want to over do the "200R" logo. I may have a seat made by the Mosh's and see how it looks on the bike. I have been pondering about the "200R" seat idea for some time now. I even see an old original one on ebay currently. As for now I'm saving some coin for the engine aspect, and will attack the seat later. What does everyone else think on this seat issue??? This trike will read "200R" on the front fender, "ATC200R" across the rear fender lip, and will have '85 style "200R" underneath the wing, similar to an OEM 1986 shroud. Selvys decals are in the works already, and I'm thinking will go under the OEM looking wing/200R decals on the rad shrouds. Though a 200R logoed seat would be kick but, I'm thinking it might be a bit redundant and would take away from the 1986 look I'm going for. This bike is a rendition of what a typical pro/am racer may have put together with parts available from the period. 200R decals would definitely have looked barrowed from another bike like a XR 200R or something from the day. A racer may have wanted a lower profile seat in '86, but not want to loose the overall '86 look. I don't know just some thoughts. This is why I want everyone's input. Thanks!

Please keep the ideas coming! Thanks!

I'll ad a few more of my thoughts...if you are going for an 86 look than your on track. I dont thinks its redundant...I like the 200r decals and the one I previously owned had the 200r decals on the stock shrouds but not on the short track kit he put on it. It had the 200r on the seat. Personally I think the 200r decals are somewhat redundant...I could go back and forth on that one ..from a distance seeing to 200r signature on the seat sets the bike apart from the rest of the pack....

I have a whole photo album of race pictures the owner of the mickey dunlap prototype let me borrow. He has many race pictures of the 200cc class in action in 1986....all those privateers stamped the seats with the 200r logo. I think one picture I have has three of them in it.

Its awesome what ever you decide.....and hey if everyone built a bike the way I would life may become boring

Hey guys. I just thought I'd post some close ups of the Westcoast hubs I'm using on this project in conjunction with a article from an old '84 magazine. The Japanese dude is servicing a set of factory WORKS 200R hubs in the photo. Westcoast designed these stainless steel hubs from team Honda's WORKS hubs. They are quite similar. I have another dilemma here, though. Please give your input. These old hubs are indeed stainless steel, but are showing their age with what looks like very light surface rust of tarnishing. Give me a yeah, or nae on powder coating them. I want this trike to be as original as it can be, within reason, but "like new" without things like this (rust/tarnish). Would you refinish them or powder coat??? Oh and ,yes I know the '86 gold wheels are a little sandblasted and nicked up look'n, but I really don't want to attempt to de-seat those tires for fear of damage. They are hard to come by and are quite hard to get off an OEM bead. HELP !! I have another set of flat track OTHSUs to mount on new DWT wheels. Anyway, thanks in advance for your ideas and/or comments! -Andy (BB)

I would leave them as is, kind of like a badge of honor, but then again, I have a 66 Corvette with 41,000 original miles on it and it has all the original grease and grime on it. I haven't painted or refinished anything on it, kills the originality.
