Any ideas how to improve the lights on a 225dx

lights are not great on my 225drs, if driving at night I have to either follow behind my mate in my honda foreman or just in front of him with his lights showing the why for me, not ideal.

They get brighter when the rev is increased but are nearly out when I slow down or stop, Was looking at the trail tech lights but they are really expensive, any ideas what I could use instead.

What about changing the bulb in the oem headlight or small spot lights just below it.

It doesn't matter what you use, the lights will brighten or dim with the revs, it's just the system. Keep your lighting system at it's optimum. Remove the bulb and clean the inside of the lens. Make sure the outside of you lens is clean. Make sure all your contacts are clean. Make sure your tail light is the same way. Replace your bulbs if you have too. The only alternative is to install a small battery and use it to run your lights and rewire accordingly. You may have to charge your battery every once in awhile, but it may give you better lighting.

My dx does the same thing. I just try not to slow down when its dark.

After all my regulator woes on my 225DX, I replaced the regulator and installed a new battery. My lights are excellent. What surprised me is that the lights appear to run off a separate lighting coil that is NOT on the battery circuit. That's not how it looks in the schematic, but it's how it seems to work. The neutral light is on when the key is on, but the headlights don't come on until you start the engine, and it works like the unregulated trikes like the 200s and 200x. I wish it worked like it does on my 250sx...on that trike, the lights run off the battery and are at the same brightness all the time.

But all that doesn't fix your problem, does it? It really shouldn't get too dim at lower revs, but if it does, you might have a regulator problem like I did. In my extensive conversation with Sargon2112, he believed that the regulator is both an AC and a DC regulator, and one can be out and the other still working. This is why it might still charge the battery but the lights aren't bright enough. On my original regulator, it was the other way around. The lights were fine but there was no voltage on the battery.
