i take a sturdy box with about 4" per side around the engine. i then cut out large sliceds of cardboard and pack it tight. the key is to have it TIGHT.

    i can ship a 250r engine for about $50.

I have to say,Maybe you never had a problem with cardboard. But every heavy item I receive in a box has been destroyed!!!! You probably go out of your way to take extra steps. But I have always liked a rubbermaid tote.I even had my take out 350x engine sent to me in a plywood box.The box looked like it fell off the plane in the air..

ONE THING VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER IN A TOTE. You need to line the bottom of the tote with lots of cardboard. Those jerks who move the tote seem to like to just drop the tote. Therefore the engine takes a sudden hit.200xman's 350x take out engine had the engine oil plug cracked from just that.Cardboard might weigh more then plastic bags. But man I will tell you,You skimp on the packing and the engine comes busted up.You will be some sorry!!!!! You get what you pay for remember that.... Take the extra time and money to do an overkill job in the shipping. I am not saying anyone will cheat on that from this deal.I am just warning all. Too many times I receive packages that are damaged.Unless you have insurance and the carrier even follows threw. You are SOL!!! UPS pretty much only covers lost items in their insurance. Not damaged ones. They claim it was poorly packaged.Even though it looks like a bomb went off next to it..

    Just my 2 cents..

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I did forget to mention I put styrofoam on he bottom of the tote, I write "this end up" on it... And skull and crossbones all over it.

I also seal the top ofthe toat with glue, and drill holes and put tie straps in those holes.

It's a cbination of a lot of techniques frommpackagesni have gotten.

Shipping store will have your documents to ship to Canada.

Thanks Goat. I will be shipping in a tupperware container that it was shipped to me in. Adding the tie raps is a good idea. I will use that one.

Exactly what Goat says, i shipped one in a tote and used pink styro board( insulation board for a house) in the bottom and sides of mine, I use a couple layers of it in the bottom and some arond the side! Perfect way to go in my opinion and alot cheaper then repairing the motor if it gets busted up! My brother is in construction so i always get his scrap insul board when he is done on the job!

Reminds me of the time I was flying to Las Vegas with my dad and his college friend that owned a bar. His friends luggage consisted of 4 coolers with the tops held on with duct tape. When he arrived in Vegas, he unloads his clothes from the coolers and then loaded the coolers back up with adult beverages. At the end of the trip, he puts his clothes back in the same coolers.

As an added benefit, he had no problem finding his luggage on the luggage belt at the airport!
