Yeah, TPC trikes is who I plan on going through, as far as the motor goes, I already have the engine from the fastest production quad ever made, and it has the quality clutch and transmission components to deal with the stress of 3 wheeling. I have heard issues witht the durability of the bike engines(CR500, KX500, IT490, WR500). Heck if I had it my way I'd put a husky 510, 610 or Maico 625 2 stroke in a trike, but A zilla engine is what I have laying about.

The main issues I will have are ones like pipe routing, body work, and other junk like that. That and cash.

funy. I haven't heard many durability issues about the CR or the KX engine but I hear the zilla engine spins the crank bearing journals pretty regularly.

Just to add my 2 cents here.

Im still rockin the 250r frame over here.

Now dont get me wrong I love the new ones. I just feel VERY at home on the 250r. But im also running a
duncan 265 powervalve motor to stay competitive.
    Elka Elite shock out back,
    -1 houser swinger,
    +4 LSR axle
450r pegs (one of the best mods you can do IMO)
    Specialized front forks for now,
(inverts, steering stab and fast flexx bars on the way)

It does me VERY well, I love the way it handles. Heres a few pics-

I agree. My ported LIL 250R motor will still pull the holeshot, and handle straight away speed with any of the Hybrids.
The only place I suffer is More shifting is needed, and the 4 strokes pull out of the turns better, and you can leave them in 3rd gear most of the time,as to where I have to stir the trans up more while racing.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

Wow, those are some awsome looking racers. The zilla has it's quirks, but they are easily taken care of by the aftermarket. What do you guys do for suspension set up?

after owning a 500 dirtbike for a while now i can say with confidence they are great for desert and hills but a beast on the mx track, the 250 is much easier to ride hands down and so is a 4stroke, thats coming from a 2stroke fan.

has any one tried using the Kwasaki, KTM, Husqvarna, suzuki, husaberg, or TM engines? I see a load of the honda and Yamaha 450 trikes, just curroius if any other brands have been tried.

I think the biggest problem with using the other 450s is just the cost. The Yami is by far the cheapest, and closest to the feel of a 2 stroke. The engine you have would work well for you considering you want to desert ride as well as MX. The logical step is to research what frame will work best for you. No stock trike suspension is up to MX with that engine.

well, I have arived at the conclusion of, I just need an aggressive trike to start practicing on. Anyone want to trade a zilla engine for an 85-86 250R or a 86-87 tecate?

What kind of forks/clamps are on that yamaha?

not to sound harsh, but I don't think a zilla engine is around the same price as a 250R let alone a tecate.

trikes aren't worth much out here my man. Infact I have yet to have to pay for one and I've gone through a couple 200xs and a couple 185s's and a KLT200

    I get your meaning though.
I figure since Zilla engines like mine go for about 600-850 and mine comes with a .005" over extra piston on top of the fact the one in the motor only has about 10 hours the one that's in there I should be able to get a beat 85 R or a decent 84 for it.

Even if you get a stockish 250r your still way ahead.

All you really need to start off is.

    A 85/86 250r,
    Wheel spacers
    18 inch tires
Maybe a pipe/can combo for a lil more ponies.

    Then just RIDE RIDE RIDE!

Took me over 4 years and 4 bikes to finally figure out what I want. Now im almost done and complete of what I think is a perfect fit for me.
