    Unhappy Oil leak inside recoil

I have a 1984 200s that has started leaking oil inside the recoil somewhere. Does anyone know what could cause this or how to go about fixing the problem?

Thanks in advance for any help

There is a seal behind the rotor which seals the case to the crank shaft. You can drain the oil, tank the pullstarter and rotor off then unbolt the cover so you can take the seal off the cover.

I changed that seal on my Honda 200e motor, and I didn't have to drain the oil.

The 200e has a different style rotor so you wouldn't have had to pull it either.

Charles, you will have to pull the rotor because your cover is behind it. You can use a 2 jaw puller and pull on the recoil basket but if the rotor is really on there you could bend the basket. There is a special puller that threads inside the rotor, they are about $15.

Once the cover is off you can use a pick or screwdriver to remove the seal.
