    Whats wrong with this quad???

I am currently looking for a 400 of some kind and i came across a 03 LTZ 400 and it looks great for 1500 he said "The reason I am selling it "for parts" It had a small oil leak near the gear shifter. It is now stuck in gear and the clutch is not working- it will not shift out of the gear it is in."
ANYONE know what this might be or how to fix it could be a nice score if its fairly easy not sure......

Hard to say without actually trying it out in person.

To me it sounds high for an 03 z400 that doesn't work right. You can get one that works properly for 2 grand.

I bought a KFX 400 with a blown transmission a couple years back and was able to find a nice used bottom end for it for about $350. To me it is worth it just to buy complete as it's less of a headache than trying to tear into the bottom end. I can usually get back quite a bit of money by selling the good parts from a blown bottom end, top end, etc.

if i remember right, they had a problem with the shift mechanism, the pin snapped off the drum or something (been a while since i fixed it) but for 1500 i would pick it up,

1500 plus parts, and if someone was doing the work? tell them 1000 see what happens, a tranny can be a lot of bad problems, it could be just the shift drum , or a part to the shifting stuff, the oil seal, 10 bucks prolly
shift drums are made to turn one way ,and stop ,if a pin is gone it might not shift the other way
it might just be the gear shift shat though they slide out easy
