You didn't need ownerships if it was used on private lands, that's why many don't have titles on them. Ownership and insurance was required for operating on crown land, liability and such. If you still have a bill of sale, that's all you need to get a plate for it, or if it's lost, then an affidavit, like mentioned earlier, is all that's needed. It's not a big deal to get one. I got a plate for mine right away, just in case some day it becomes a problem getting one, but since I only use it on my property, I didn't bother with the insurance.

Oh and getting a plate means paying all the retarded taxes on it as well (PST)!!! Like McGuinty doesn't take enough of my money to piss away!

I recently got an 85 200x and i was wondering what all do i need or is it possible to legally drive it on gravel roads in the country. i have the ownership and will be getting insurance. Is there any safety inspection or anything? what about mirrors, lights, tires etc? I live in southern Ontario and just want to know exactly what i can and cannot do with my trike. thank you

You can't drive an ATV on a "highway" and a "highway", in general terms is any road that is intended for public use not on private land. Some towns, like my old home town in Northern Ontario, have passed by-laws allowing use of certain vehicles on city streets, like ATV's, Golf carts and Ski-doo's. Aside from that you are SOL.

There is no "safety" than can make an ATV road worthy. The Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA) allows you to cross a "highway" at 90 degrees if you are a valid driver's license holder. That's about it. If you get caught driving the thing on a Highway you can/may be dinged for the 5000$ fine for driving without the proper insurance, on top of all/any of the vehicle charges they can find on your machine, even with ATV insurance because it's not the right kind.

Heh, Heh, ain't that right, I did my share of running as a teen on my yamaha, especially on side roads. Rules have changed though, cops can't chase motorcycles or ATV's anymore. If they run, they have to disengage the pursuit, at least in Ontario...don't try it in the states!

The cops just need to back off and let us ride or trikes. Don't they realize its just less paperwork if they turn a blind eye. aha Not like were hurting anyone. Like was said above though, they gotta catch us first. I have'nt seen any cops on my rides recently, knock on wood.

I do think after I restore my 225 this spring I will look for insurance though. Seems that it is available for fairly cheap, so why not.
