You wouldn't happen to have a repair manual would you? If you spend any money it should be on a repair manual. The manual can answer alot of questions for you that people on here may not know. You have the enthusiasm to fix the bike, it's just tough on a tight budget and without a manual. I wish I had a manual to help you, cause you seem pretty sincere to try and get this bike up and running. I think you are just going to have to take your time until you can get the correct repair parts. You might check ebay or a motorcycle parts place for used parts. Hang in there and try to be patient and best of luck.
