    200x oil cooler pics

3 week ago I bought this 200x,completly destroyed, everything had a problem. This 200x was mine 7 year ago,I sold it to a friend,he finally sold it to another people that ran it for 3 week and blow the cam....was sitting outdoor under a tree for 5 years.I bought it for 150$ and will never sell it.I have completly restored it (Need rear fender and tank paint).I add a supertrapp exhaust,xr200 cam and carb,a good porting to the exhaust port and this oil cooler. And the DIFFERENCE between stock and all this mods,BIG difference,a lot more power.oil cooler is from a cb900c,with this setup I can install the stock headlight and I will built a custom headlight guard to fit with the cooler,

Wow looks really nice. I am redoing a 85 200x myself and thinking about the xr setup with a cooler from something similar. Did you consider running the return line to the head (above cam) ? Also where did you get that cool billet looking spacer for the carb?

Is it ok to use bolts instead of studs on the head pipe?

Bolt or stud make no difference, but always use antiseize on thoses bolts.

I don't think another oil line for the cam is necessary,if you have a good oil pump, use good oil and make sure all oil gallery are clean on rebuilt, cam have enought oil with the factory setup. If you paypass more oil to help the cam you will probably kill your crankshaft cause the gallery you drill for the oil cooler isn't a main,it's the crankshaft lubrication only.
The spacer for the carb is homemade in a piece of aluminium

Good looking trike man! Looks like it should be a runner. Good to hear the porting, carb, and cam made a big difference. I can't wait to get mine together!

Nice job on the oil cooler!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Whole trike's looking good....

    BRAUNZ:

They use studs on the exhaust because they are intended to stay in the head. Some stock studs have distorted threads on the side that threads in the head, intentionally so that they won't back out.

There is also a crush factor of the sealing ring. If your bolts are too short - stripped head $$$$ If your bolts are too long - stripped head $$$$ and or an exhaust that doesn't fully tighten.

I take out the stock studs, chase the threads and use stainless steel studs so I can get them apart at a future date!

My buddy has a bottom end for a 85 200x that has already been set-up for an oil cooler. Does it really help the 200x? Been thinking of building one up.

can't hurt ... extra oil capacity and cooler oil = longer happier engine life

I like the spacer you made for the carb to line it up correctly. I've been thinking about an XR200 carb for a while but never did it because people say that the carb boot that connects to the head doesn't allow for correct alignment with the airbox boot. Since I don't know how to machine stuff, and don't know anyone that does, it looks like it'll never happen.

dont want to hijack the thread, but certain year XR200 carb boots should work on the 200x. if i remember correctly i believe their 2mm bigger also. the stock 200x boot should also work with a XR200 carb. check out these threads:

Oh, I like that install. Sure would be more efficient if the air would flow thrugh the fins rather than past them. Did you think about mounting the cooler up on the forks, as in the earlier post??

I have an old nos aftermarket oil cooler kit that basically mounts in the same place under the rear fenders, but it has a fiberglass scoop that forces the air across the cooler. Here is a few pics of the kit.
