My Brother has an '88 KX125. They're awesome bikes. Fast and nimble, and they feel low, which is nice when your used to riding 3 wheelers. As for parts interchange, if its anything like the other KX years, I believe the side number plates and fenders interchange with the '89 KX250 and KX500, and I know most of the KIPS parts interchange with the '88, but the valves themselves are a little less restrictive on the '89 ones. What parts in particular are you curious about?
    Rides I own:
    '85 200X(old smokey)
'81 ATC250R(Bassani pipe, Wiseco piston, Vesrah rod, and AMS offset rims)
    '84 KXT250 Red(the new money pit!)
'96 KX125(FMF pipe, Boyesen reeds, One Industries graphic kit, etc.)
'85 KX125(vintage racer. Technically it was a practice bike)
    '78 DT400(the lone Yamaha)

Looks like the pipe and silencer will interchange between the 88-89 125 as well. The motors are probably pretty close, too.

Not 100% sure on the carb size, but its a Keihin PWK style. I think its an 34mm? The '88 and '96 have almost the same carb, so I'd say that any year in between these will work. The only difference with the '96 is that it's an updated version of the same carb.
