200x Work Update And Another Question

Hi all, first off thanks to 200x man and Dirtcrasher for offering up their help. Unfortunately for me Todd is not local and Steve can't take on a moderately large project at this time but, I still appreciate the concerns.

I have found a "Honda Powersport Only" dealer in Metutchen NJ, it is "Sport Honda Powerhouse", it's about 20 minutes from me which is great....Anyone ever deal with them or hear of them??? I would appreciate some reviews. I spoke to a mechanic named Joe there and he seems more than knowledgeable and qualified to do the work on my bike. He says hes been working on atc's-atv's etc. for 23 years. Funny, cause thats how old my bike is
I will give some updates and show pics of before and after for anyone whom might be thinking of dealing with them.
Basically im going to rely on them to tell me what the bike will need. My own list includes: New douglas alumilite sport wheels, K & N filter, CHECK: brakes, cables, seals, gaskets, sprockets, chain, frame, change all fluids, install stainless nut, bolt, screw kit for entire bike, new headlight, check inside of gas tank, Tune-up...

Anything else you guys can think of???

judging by your user name, i am assuming you got a 86 200X. heres what else i would do personally, check the bearings, clean the carb, do a compression test, check tires for dry rot or holes and pressure, adjust the valves, bleed the brakes and check fluid and pads, change oil, lube cables, check wiring/contact points make sure their free of corrosion/problems, new spark plug, check packing in exhaust if its an after market one, check lights, check/adjust clutch, check/adjust chain and sprockets, make sure all bolts/nuts are tight. most of this stuff is very simple and you should be able to do on your own, depending upon how skilled you are. good luck

The big thing for me was the want of powdercoating the frame. That requires a complete teardown at which point I'd want to put headset bearings in etc etc. Then anything else that doesn't look mint stands out like a sore thumb....

For me, it would take a lot of hours. Sure I built a 200X in 20 days and I built it well But that wasn't really by choice, more it was necessity of getting it done for TF08.

I just couldn't get stuck with it for weeks but I'm sure I could spend a good 40 hours or better on that project. And with the dealer charging 60,80 or 100$ an hour, it could be quite shocking.... I'm unsure what you expect to pay to restore it even though it sounds very nice.....

I personally believe your looking at 1500$ or better at an absolute bare minimum..

The only thing about the dealer is you could end up with a pimply faced 17yo kid that doesn't know the details and ins and outs of an ATC.

Did you ever contact VintageMike here on the boards? I know I didn't get you his email when I suggested him, but he should be easily found with the search feature.

I didn't get into the seriousness of this with you but it is quite a job and it would be good to have a dedicated ATC guy.
