185 carb issue-(stumble)

sorry, - i know another carb question! -but cant find the answer .would like to know how to correct this problem. bike runs great at all rpm's-however theres a slight stumble when you start to ease back on the gas from a slow roll.. (at low speed /low rpm only)- with only slight opening of throttle. adjustments to mixture screw dont help. carb does not leak any fuel, bike does not turn off, runs/idles excellent besides this. does not have this trouble while at a stop, figured it gets loaded with fuel when coasting down then gas is applied(stumbles a second). do i adjust my float to get less fuel? or- go down on pilot jet a size?......................-please help-thanks

set the mixture screw to 1 and 1/2 turns out. then set the needle clip on the carb slide to the center if it's not there.

adjsut the side screw to where you get a smooth non-loping idle. a ideling stock bike shoudl be fairly smooth (as smooth as it can get for a 1 cyclinder anyway)

like i said - adjusting makes no difference and idles perfect accelerates perfect thru range, just initial stutter low speed. clip in middle position, screw might be out a little more than normal tho. but has same stutter effect seems.

if it's out too much it will cause that. turn it all the way in (do not crank on it, jsut turn till it gently stops) then back out 1 and 1/4 to start and if eneded to 1 and 1/2 total. any more and your mixture is probebly off.

just counted how many turns out it was-2 1/4. thats where its best idle.might have to go down a size on the pilot and try it. also it does not puff any black smoke(nor blue) or backfiring . it stumbles regardless of adjustment. i know its definitely the carb. and yes timing is perfect. and its not real bad, its always done this but i would like to try to solve it. just picky.-thanks again

that mixtre screw is NOT for idle. the side screw is for idle. thaty mixture handles the air/fuel for low to mid range.

did you set it to 1 and 1/4 turns out? then turned itne idle screw on the side in? did you set the needle ont he carb? it's also possible you need a carb rebuilt. a new kit is like $20 shipped. that's also an option off ebay. but again 1 and 1/4 to max 1 and 1/2 turns out onthe bottom mixture screw. otherwise it no workie right. only time you change that is if you got performance parts.

yes, -i've played with the carb,-i'm familiar with the functions of the screws & how to adjust, & stock positions. thats just where its best. the carb is rebuilt- but just old i guess. has-dg exhaust, 200x top end. i just rebuilt motor too myself. but always had this sympton before no matter.

I picked up my 82 185s 2 weeks ago and had the same stumble. I dont know if it had old gas in it. But I changed the oil, new plug, fresh gas. But it still did it. Then I drained the boul of the carb and some crap came out. And it runs perfect now.

Had and 83 that had a 200 head on it and it did the same. Look deep into carb orifices and clean again and again with wire brush wire. Worked on mine. Had tiny particles in rebuit carb Good luck...

you left that stuff out goof! that makes a BIG difference.

are you running a 200x carb? you probelby need to, that stumble can be your carb not keep up with demand, also did you rejet? ytou may be running too lean.
