Tightening the chain on a 85 350x

Can anyone scan the book procedure on tightening the chain on a 85 350 x.I just got this bike and i dont have a manuel also do i need to get a spanner wrench or will a big pair of channel locks work for the adjuster

just use a large screwdriver to put through your sprocket and into the "teeth" on the carrier. roll the bike forward or backward to rotate the carrier.

this must be why so many 85 350X carriers are chewed up everytime i buy a parts trike or work on one.

get the spanner wrench its not expensive.

you can use all types of "tools" to move it but your dealing with SOFT aluminum.

if you can't wait to get the spanner wrench use a dull drift and after loosening the pinch bolts push down on the notches in the carrier.

the chain should have about a 1 1/4 play (up and down movement) when sitting on its wheels and measured in the center of the front and rear sprockets

i guess if people loosened the carrier bolts enough you would not see so many "chewed up" carriers. I have never had a slip or "chewed up" carrier from adjusting my chain like this. Its all personal preference but I don't appreciate the attack.

Mr ATC i would be willing to bet that you would have a piece in the manuel that you could scan showing the correct way according to Honda to adjust the chain.Not trying to start a hassle here but i have never owned a 350X

You can buy adjustable spanner wrenches at most hardware or implement stores. They are nice because you can use them for more than one thing. Like Mr. ATC said, you do risk damaging the carrier if you use a screwdriver. Not because it doesn't work, but because it may not have been adjusted in a long time and may not have any grease in there. When I got my 350X I had to tap the spanner with a because it was very tight. Also my carrier had a hairline crack which turned in to a big crack from the guy before me which I had to get welded so the new seal had a place to sit. I would just recommend using a spanner for the first time to be sure it will move freely enough.

it's not a personal attack unless you take it that way.

i personally think it's tripping over dollars to pick up a penny to not buy a 10.00 tool for a 200.00 carrier.
but as a new owner i feel he should be dirrected in the proper way to do things

Tusan200x i have the manuals but no scanner at this time
