    How bad is it...

To ride without a pipe? I just lost mine somewhere today and I had plans to go riding tomorrow but I don't know how bad it would be without my pipe.

No back pressure and an overly lean condition will not be good things for your motor.

Yeah I guess those are pretty loud. I think the general consensus you are going to get is that it will be no good for your engine.

not to mention all the people you will annoy with it being so loud. That is one of the biggest complaints form the anti-ATV crowd - Noise Factor. You would just be fueling the fire.

How far did you ride? There is no chance of you going back and finding it?

I know it's bad for a 2 stroke. It will warp the head. I would have to guess
it is bad for a 4 stroke also.

I only rode about 5 miles so I just walked back and forth a couple of times looking for it but no luck. I guess I'm not gonna be riding this weekend after all.

If the head pipe is there and it's just the rear "stinger" portion of the exhaust, AND it's a 4 stroke... You can technically get away with it.

However, as mentioned, it really annoys people and fuels the "ATV's are bad mmmkay?" thing. Unless you are way way way out in the sticks where no one is going to hear it I'd find a stinger for it before going out.

A stock one should be practically free I bet, no one wants them.

    Good luck!

Not only the fact that it can damage your engine, but it's also illegal in some states too.

If its just the silencer, run it. I've done it amny times. Heck, i ran a XR for 2 years without one. As long as you arent already on the edge of running lean, you'll be fine.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.
