New Guy with a Kawi KLT 250

Hello Fellas! Name is Kenny, 47 yo. Been into snowmobiles my whole life, had a dirtbike in my early 20's in So-Cal, had Bikes most of the time, But only rode friends 3 wheelers back in the day, never owned one till last year.
Was given a Yamaha yt 125 that was WORN out. Too many things wrong to get it going. Then I got this Kawi. Man, its in great shape for sitting so long. It has one issue I am fighting with right now. The slide in the carb keeps gumming up. Even after cleaning the WHOLE fuel system out, (standard proceedure for old sleds), and running fresh gas and sea foam thru it for about 4-5 miles, and 2 weeks time. Anyone have a suggestion as to where to look for the solution?

hmm , the gunk must be comming from the tank , do you have an inline fuel filter installed ? try that and see if that helps limit the crap getting in your carb

Looks just like my KLT200 that I picked up tuesday.... but I don't have all the cool racks.

It took me a couple hours to get my carb unstuck.... and I cleaned the heck out of the tank and replaced the hoses, pump (cause the pump was shot) and the filter. I soaked my carb in a bowl of carb cleaner with the bowl off and left the floats. I pulled the needle and tubes off the bottom and sprayed cleaner through them, and let them soak for a good while as well. The bowl on mine had about 1/4 inch of varnish sitting in it. After letting it soak I used a copper brush to get it fixed up.

Very cool ride Kenny, I use Chem-Dip carb cleaner for my machines(most Auto stores have it) and it comes with a basket for dipping, just make sure there are no rubber, plastic parts on it. It's good for cleaning other gunked up parts too. +1 on inline fuel filter. If the tank comes off, I would clean it too. Maybe even use a tank liner if it's bad. Good luck Beets

You said you cleaned the entire fuel system. Is it possible the the slide spring is broken/weak? What is gumming up the slide, old bits of varnish? Is the carb cap seal good? Maybe sucking some dust in through the top? Fuel pump clean inside? They can hold bits of varnish too. New fuel lines, same problems? Just some food for thought.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!!!
I tore it down twice today and I "Think" it is Varnish coming from the tank. It is gumming up the whole slide and the engine side of the carbs bore. So I will try to get the tank off and rinse it out since it must be breaking the varnish up in there.

I used carb cleaner to clean out the tank.... I sprayed and then swished it around. Over and over and over. Mine was bad.
