1984 honda atc 125m problems

i have a 1984 honda atc 125m. when i drive it, somtimes it will come out of gear. sometimes it doesnt even go into a gear. when i shift from nuetral to 1st, somtimes it will just rev up and then i have to push the shifter again. how do i fix this

If you have a manual look in it about adjusting the clutch....i think the manual says to adjust the clutch every 30 days of riding. if that doesn't help, you may need new clutch plates.

i guess theres a little arm that keeps the atc in gear. can thisarm be adjusted so the gears dont come out, also how do i do this and where do i get to the part. is oil going to be everywhere?

As far as oil being everywhere, you will drain the oil before you pull the side cover off. There will still be some but it won't be that bad.

That is a link to a factory Honda manual, not a Clymer. The Honda manual for the 125's has to be one of the worst ones I've ever used. It gives no troubleshooting info and very vague descriptions on most things. Good Luck with it.

I have the exact same bike that was doing just what yours is. Shifter fork was litterally off a fraction of a MM and it made all the difference putting a new one in. All the parts were $44 and took me about an hour to do.

It's very possible the shifter pawl is cracked or broken. The shifter pawl holds the shifting drum in place to keep it in gear.

The shifter arm could be bad as well. How ever when they go bad ( break ) they normally won't shift at all.
