No its simply the switch that provides power to the pull in coils in the solenoid to let it transfer juice from the battery to the stater

You must have no knowledge of electrical systems on ATV's ( and most other motors ). That info is wrong.

No the starter switch and solenoid are different components all together.

Here it is in the most simplest form:

The Battery provides power to the electrical system ( lights, starter switch, ect ).
The starter switch provides power to the solenoid.
The solenoid provides power to the starter motor.
The starter motor spins the motor for starting.

The Stator generates electric while the motor is running to recharge the battery.

I do have a solenoid, but before I sell you one I would prefer you do some more checking to be sure it's what you need.

1st test: unplug the solenoid from the wiring harness ( leave the heavy cables connected ). Using 2 wires here: hook 1 wire to one of the terminals in the plug ( from the solenoid ) and and the other end of the wire to the chassis or to the neg post of the battery. Then take the other wire and hook it to the other terminal in the plug ( from the solenoid ). The touch the other end to the pos side of the battery. If the solenoid clicks and works ( motor spins over ) then you don't need a solenoid, you have other problems.
