Does anything work for curing a stiff neck?

I wake up with an extremely sore/stiff neck once in a while. Right now I can't even turn my head to the right. Hate it when that happens. Anybody else deal with this on a regular basis and know of any products or anything that bring some quick relief?

LOL I wake up that way almost every day. I believe mine comes from extremely active sleep patterns, lots of tossing and turning. I have not used or looked into any actual medical products to help with it, but I have my own little solution. I wait till it's PM, then I drink until it doesn't hurt anymore...lol

I know mine comes from sleeping on my stomache with my head cranked real hard to either side. Can't help it though.

I don't think the drinking method will help me at work today but thanks for the tip anyway.

Doug - I get the same thing you have about once a month. I find that nothing cures it but time. My mother in-law said one day she got tired of having a sore neck - so she decided to start sleeping on her back. I have been trying this as well. takes some getting used to - but it will be worth the no more sore neck once I have it mastered!

Change pillows, i had to experiment with a few different ones before i found what works best for me. I thought that big and firm was best, but they left me with my neck stiff and a headache. I know use a thinner semi soft pillow and haven't had neck pain since.

Icy hot, or EMU cream. I swear by this stuff! You can definitely feel it work, especially if you rub it on your neck before you go to bed.
Those foam pillows help too (the old school chiropractic deals), and if your neck still hurts Excedrin works well. And be glad its not your back

That will definately help some... This same happens to me on about a monthly basis.. I'll wake up with ear against my shoulder.. sometimes it hurts so bad I cant even turn my head enough to drive.. I usually take vicodin or advil to take the edge off the pain and it goes away in a couple days..

I've got a trick back so I know all about that. I don't know what causes it to go nuts exactly but when it does I'm pretty much useless for about three days.

I gotta agree with ProCarbine... Use IcyHot, that stuff works like a charm!
Sometimes I sleep all wierd and my knee kills in the morning, or my neck, shoulder, etc.... this stuff works great, love it!

there's always that heat/ice approach...personally Ice always made me hurt worst if it was joint pain...if it was muscle pain ice helped.

heat never did anything for me.

I can give you a recipe for a drink that will make you forget it hurts for a while.

    pm if interested.

I used to get a stick neck from this all the time from sleeping on my stomach. For stiffness use heat not ice.. Ice will make you stiffer.

Get a pillow for sleeping on your stomach.. I never realized they had them until the beginning of spring.
I actually got my last 2 from Ikea, just by luck I ran across them. I usually have to replace mine every 2 or 3 months. But they are under $10..

I had a $60 memory foam pillow for sleeping on your stomach. It sucked don't get one of those unless you sleep on your back.
