Its good to lube the cables. Don't worry about the oil getting into the carb. Just use common sense as far as how much oil you put in.

A good lubricated cable will last a lot longer than a non-lubed one. Very good for preventitive ( sp? ) maintance. Thumbs up for doing the correct thing!!

I used to just stick the cables in a bucket of oil and let it sit for days. Usually helps the cable move more freely and protects it from rusting.

there is actually a product on the market ( I have one) just for lubing cables. It is slick - here is what it looks like.

We lube our cables all the time - it is great preventative maintenance.

You pull the cable off the what it is hooked to - whether it be the clutch perch or brake or what ever, You then slip the cable into this device and clamp it down. This puts a rubber seal around the outer cable sheild, and the actual cable. You then insert the little red hose that comes with WD40 and other penetrating oils in the little hole, and sqray away .It basically works like a tiny funnel getting the lube down inside the cable.

Any shop should have them, there dirt cheap also. You have to use spray lube with it.

That cable luber looks pretty slick. What I do is cut the corner off a plastic sack, dump oil into the corner piece, and then use black tape/small zip tie to fasten it to the end of the detached cable. Then you can GENTLY squeeze it like a bulb until oil comes out the other end of the cable. (yes, you will get oily. also, a piece of heavier plastic works better)
