So why aren't wiseco rings compatible with OEM pistons?

I just found this out in my thread about buying parts for my 350X. I had no clue about this. Wiseco certainly never bothered to warn of this when i orderd them and now i'm stuck with rings i can't use, right? I'm not going to spend $$$ in a wiseco piston just to match these rings because my OEM piston is in perfect condition. I guess i'll consider my $30 rings purchase money wasted and now i have to buy OEM rings. How ridiculous. Man, this makes me mad.

One piston is cast and one is forged and they have different expansion rates? I am just guessing.

The rings could be different thicknesses?

wiseco rings are quite a bit thinner than oem,,, less drag more power,,, you probably wouldn't have to go thru this aggravation if you had asked here before buying.......................

When I or anyone else comes on here and asks a question like that we get treated like dirt. Told to look it up the manual, use the search function. There is a lot of condescention around here lately, and to be honest, I'm getting to the point that i don't want to come here and ask questions anymore because of the attitude problems because i don't want to deal with their drama. How sad is that? i have to be worried about ridicule from "certain" members when i come to a forum and ask a question that is designed for us to ask questions?

Obviously this is not directed at you KASEY, you have always been helpful. But I wish some of the mods and more important members would go read some of these threads that have questions and see the treatment people are getting.

The bad attitudes are hurting this forum and has already devestated people at 3wheeler.org here is a thread for it

Ultimately it is going to hurt the sport. It doesn't matter if the person is an old timer, a noobie a pro racer or whatever, leave the arrogance, condescention and disrespect at the door when we enter these forums or we're all going to lose out.

Plus, it never was a thought on my mind that the rings wouldn't work. I never in a m,illion years would have even thought of asking that question. It's something Wiseco should be responsible for reporting to their customers. I've never had compatability issues with pistons and rings for any cars i've rebuilt. Never even crossed my mind it was something that was out there. Seems like a money making gimmick from Wiseco if you ask me.

Agreed, the thermal expansion rates between the two are probably different, wiseco may cut their ring lands differently. Also as Kasey said dimensionally the rings may be different as well. There may be a locating pin in the wiseco ring land that's not in the OEM piston??? This probably also has to do with the piston to wall clearance on the wiseco vs OEM, rings may possibly be a slightly different material as well. Oem ring sets are around $30 as well.

Well, I'll just buy a set of new OEM rings and then one of these days if I decide toi do some mods to the trike i will just buy a wiseco piston and wrist pin and drag out the stored away rings. lol

You can return them and pay the shipping plus restocking fee. lol I here you Bro its a bunch of bull, but the last time i looked if you click on more info on the part page it say they are only compatable with wiseco pistons. Because of the size difference between stock and wiseco.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

Who really cares what "certain" members here think?? Ask your questions and you'll either get your answers or you won't... Its simple really... By announcing to everyone that these "certain" members are bothering you is probably only going to make them do it worse..or add more drama to the site... its just like on the playground back in school...

IMO rather than buying rings twice I would put the money towards a wiseco piston... Arent the stock 350x's very low compression? I guess I am the type of person that cant have anything apart without making changes..

I'd say "Do Wiseco rings fit OEM pistons" would have been a good question to ask.....

They don't talk about THAT in the service manual

No, you have a bad attitude because you don't know when to zip it. If you feel to burned out to answer a question or direct someone to the answer (which i know it breaks fingers and takes days to type a simple sentence to direct someone ) then instead of ridiculing them, just don't post. Is that so hard? You are burned out and don't feel like posting, yet you're not to burned out to feel like posting derogatory comments? "Nuff said.
